LAst Night's Action: Local Hoops. WTF?

Kevin Houston has earned some R&R after Long Beach won the Big West. Somebody find that kid a La-Z-Boy.Dallas 108, Lakers 72 - The last time the Lakers lost at home this bad, "home" was Minneapolis. Things got so ugly that LAist writers were wondering if Smush Parker's ejection (after a second technical) might help the team. But with three players sidelined with injuries, the it turns out a streamlined roster wasn't much of a solution. Dallas rolled to its 17th win in a row and held Los Angeles to within two points of the team's worst production ever. The Lakers have lost six in a row now for the second time this season, which accounts for the two worst loosing streaks in Phil Jackson's career.

Pistons 98, Clippers 80 - With Rasheed Wallace sitting out a suspension, the Clippers might have hoped for some success against Detroit's vaunted defense. Not so much. Los Angeles lost the ball 20 times and lost their cool once. Mike Dunleavey was ejected shortly after halftime for arguing with the referees.

Stars 4, Kings 3, OT - Los Angeles did well to force overtime, but the extra frame only lasted 35 seconds before Mike Modano put in the winner for the Dallas. LAist wonders if the Kings are excited not to be alone in last place in the West. They're now tied with Phoenix. Sort of. The point totals are the same, but Phoenix has played one less game.

Ducks 4, Canucks 2 - Los Angeles put some distance between themselves and Vancouver in the race for playoff seeding. The two division leaders combined for a whopping 104 penalty minutes. Each team had seven power plays, but only the Ducks converted -- twice.

Dancing Machine - Selection Sunday is over and the NCAA has announced the full tournament bracket. UCLA is a #2 seed in the West after getting knocked out of the Pac 10 Tourney in the first round. USC is a #5 seed in the East after being humiliated in the Pac 10 Tourney final. Long Beach is a #12 seed in the South, because, well, they're just G like that.

Correction - LAist neglected to give proper credit to the Long Beach State 49ers, a/k/a The Beach, in yesterday's edition of LAst Night's Action. Long Beach is badass and we never intended to insult anybody. In case you didn't hear, the 49ers won the Big West Championship on Saturday to advance to the Big Dance. And people from Long Beach should know how to dance, with talent like Snoop and Sublime hailing from there.
