I worked at a women's homeless shelter in college and I can attest that tampons are much needed. Not to gross y'all out, but the thing I remember most about the place is the stench. At any time, several of the women had their periods and generally they didn't have access to pads or tampons. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I stopped working there - I just couldn't stand the smell anymore.
