"I do not exist without Gmail"

Gmail is DownGmail is down for a subset of users (which could mean quite a few, if not a lot). Reports of the outage say that it has been out for 8 to 12 hours. LAist can confirm it started going whack yesterday afternoon, then schizo in the later evening and went totally limp around 3 am.

With the recent launch of Google Apps Enterprise (where you can send e-mail to and from your domain address in a Gmail account), people are not too happy with the promise of a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Many users who have used AOL and Yahoo in the past are saying this has never happened except for Gmail and they are splitting according to comments left in a Digg.com forum.

In a Google Group thread discussing the problem, Google posted this at 10:44 a.m.:

We know how important Gmail is to our users, so we take issues like this very seriously and are working as quickly as we can to get all users back up and running. I am monitoring this thread carefully and will address your specific questions as soon as I have the most accurate information.

Last December, about 60 Gmail users had their e-mails wiped clean by some kind of server error.

*UPDATE: It appears Gmail is rolling out service to users on affected servers. However, it is still buggy.

My gmail's working just fine but the thought of it going down has me a little panicky now. I love my gmail.

We love our Gmail too and this is quite scary. There is a cost to everything, including the price of free.

My gmail is down. Bummer.

My account's been inaccessible for the past 5 hours now :(

G-Mail isn't free. Advertisers pay dearly for the service.

I was working overnight on a project, and noticed probably around 3 or 4am that not only was gmail down, but so was blogger, Google adwords, and Google altogether, as was Yahoo mail, Yahoo search, and my own business website which is hosted by Yahoo business servers! Everything seems to be back up now, but was a sudden lesson in dependency! Havent been able to find any info on what brough both Google and Yahoo down at the same time.... curious!...

My gmail has been out and it is horrible. I've been running my work e-mail through gmail and now I can't access in of my old e-mails. Nothing seems to change with the updates, either.

Gmail has been down all afternoon today. Is this the second time this month that Gmail has crashed? This is the message they have posted, but it's not accurate, it's been at least three hours.

Server Error

We're sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We're currently working to fix the problem -- please try logging in to your account in a few minutes.

Believe me Gmail really sucks!!!

I used to be like some of you guys, who thought Gmail was the BEST! thing that could happen in the email world, but today, after 5 complete days of NOT being able to access my mails, and after finding out that the problem is not unique to me, and that it's not the first time such a problem has happened with gmail,

I can boldly say TRASH TO GMAIL!

It's really a mess!

My advice? Better have a backup email account somewhere else....time consuming?...yes! But it is better to be safe than to be sorry!
