"I do not exist without Gmail"
Gmail is down for a subset of users (which could mean quite a few, if not a lot). Reports of the outage say that it has been out for 8 to 12 hours. LAist can confirm it started going whack yesterday afternoon, then schizo in the later evening and went totally limp around 3 am.
With the recent launch of Google Apps Enterprise (where you can send e-mail to and from your domain address in a Gmail account), people are not too happy with the promise of a 99.9% uptime guarantee. Many users who have used AOL and Yahoo in the past are saying this has never happened except for Gmail and they are splitting according to comments left in a Digg.com forum.
In a Google Group thread discussing the problem, Google posted this at 10:44 a.m.:
We know how important Gmail is to our users, so we take issues like this very seriously and are working as quickly as we can to get all users back up and running. I am monitoring this thread carefully and will address your specific questions as soon as I have the most accurate information.
Last December, about 60 Gmail users had their e-mails wiped clean by some kind of server error.
*UPDATE: It appears Gmail is rolling out service to users on affected servers. However, it is still buggy.
