Wanna Play With Rocket at SXSW?

wanna play with rocket

At LAist we've had some pretty cool contests over the year. We have given away box seats to the 'Bowl (including parking and picnic baskets), we gave away New Year's Eve tickets to see the Flaming Lips and Gnarls Barkley, we gave away tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers play at the Roxy, and last week we gave away hella cds and one lucky winner will get to see a Luscious Jackson solo at the Hotel Cafe.

But this contest might beat them all because it's a chance to play at a killer club in Austin, Texas during SXSW.

In less than two weeks, on March 11, LAist will be hosting a party during SXSW at Room 710 on Red River. Local all-girl rockers Rocket will face off against two Austin bands: the gentle strains of Quiet Company and the metal riffs of Blackholicus.

We need another LA band to get in the ring and make this foursome complete. Travel, expenses, and lodging are not included, but you get to play at a killer club right across the street from Stubb's during the film and interactive festival a few days before the music festival.

So if you were already planning on going to Austin or if now you have a good excuse to go, if you are in an LA band, email us (thelaist @ gmail.com) a link to your MySpace page and/or YouTube and we will feature bands we're considering as we receive them.

The winning band will be announced Monday, March 5, so get on it!

you can't be from LA using the phrase "hella cd's"

shhhh, LAist has been around the block

Oh, I thought you just meant CD's from the band Hella.

Oh, and does Santa Barbara count as LA these days?
If so, I'd know a very, very, very interested group

Santa Barbara or Isla Vista?

Santa Barbara, though one is a music major at UCSB. They're all a bit older than the typical university scene bands, though.

Plus, they rock harder

i was going to comment on the use of "hella" but bones beat me to it...props to you, bones.

who won it?
