Clay Aiken singing the National Anthem is worthy of a joke.
It's begging for a joke.
It seethes with jokes.
But this is our nation's song, so let's be respectful.

I'm not getting the joke. It's one of the best National Anthem renditions I've ever heard.
Yeah, I'm not getting it either. Clay Aiken has one of the best voices in pop music today. Forget the dumb jokes, and listen for yourself. Here are couple of songs from his latest album:

Yes, I'm with Carol and Linda. So what did you find so amusing, or jokeworthy, with that? I thought he did a nice job and he stayed on key. A lot of "stars" can't hold a key when singing a capella. Some even go flat or sharp when singing with an orchestra - but thanks to new technology that can all be fixed!
Wow ! That was really good . After some of the disasters I've heard he needs to sing the anthem at more events .
I guess I don't get your point either. So you'd rather hear it totally butchered by some other singer? I think you must have a tin ear or something because that was one of the best rendations I've heard.
When was this? He hasn't had his hair like that in like a year or more. I'm not sure why anyone would think that version joke worthy, it had a few too many trills in it but it was sung very well.
The joke is Clay Aiken and that anyone wants to hear him.
Isn't it stange that the announcers loved it! so where are you coming from with this. Bad Ear? or wax in the ear? I would love to hear you sing it!
Remember Clay is laughing all the way to the bank while you moan LOL.
You're the joke!
I just came across this one when I was viewing Kelly Clarkson's version today. I have to say, I don't get why his is a joke either. Both did a great job but I actually liked his better.
Where's the joke? He sound great to me.
I am not even an American and I can appreciate how brilliantly and beautifully Clay sang your National Anthem. I don't get the joke and why is it even a joke that people want to hear Clay sing? He's got a beautiful voice and he is one of the most talented singers I have ever heard. I definitely would love to hear him sing more! NO JOKE!
Mr. Pierce, the joke's on you. Fabulous job, Clay! As always.
Simply gorgeous! Sorry, no joke there!
Very nice job singing the National Anthem & I have to agree with those who have posted about it. A capella is difficult & not only did he not miss a note, he didn't make it overly theatrical like some singers do. The National Anthem is a difficult song to sing & how often do we hear it sung badly?
I will be watching the videos of the upcoming Idol alumni & I'll bet we'll see that this one will be one of the best.

When Clay Aiken records, his voice does not have to be technologically adjusted for pitch, as do many other pop artists. Those who insist on making lame jokes only show their ignorance and lack of creativity. It is easy to get on the bandwagon of making a punching bag out of this talented young man. It is getting old, and it is time for those trying to be cool to get a life.
CLAY AIKEN YOU ARE AWESOME...
NO JOKE HERE,,
WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME.. II CAN'T SAY ENOUGH
Wow, amazing, Clay. Where's the joke? Don't get it. Am I missing something. I've heard him sing the National Anthem several different times. He does a great time every time. These people who think they have to pick on this guy for every little thing need to get a life. If you don't like him, don't buy his music, but leave him alone. Gheeeese!
What joke. This young man did a great job.
Tony, make all the jokes you want. You certainly won't be the first macho man to do so. And if you'd rather listen to TSAR than Clay, go for it.
Meanwhile, Clay's laughing all the way to the bank. Multiple banks
Wow. That was good. REALLY good.
Just beautiful.
If you don't like Clay's voice, just say so. I don't really care who likes him or who does not.
But there's no need to call him a "joke." That just makes you look like an idiot.
WOW, that was beautiful. Thanks!!!
WOW!That's the BEST National Anthem I've heard.Even the sports announcers think it was great.Oh the joke is YOU!
Never heard the guy sing before but he is a great vocalist. Joke? I don't get it???
What an Amazing Voice! The sports announcers even agree what a great performance he did. What joke?
the only joke I see is --Tony Pierce.
The joke's on you, Tony. You're reduced to posting AIs rendition of the National Anthem stolen from youtube and your lame comments to get attention while this guy is laughing at guys like you all the way to the bank.
Clay Aiken's voice a joke?????? What planet are you on????
Clay has the 'pipes of perfection'!! That was delivered beautifully . With some of his glory notes, I could go to the store , buy a cake, bake it , ice it and eat it by the time he is finished holding that note!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're a joke -- and not even worthy to wash the feet of this beautiful talented gorgeous man!
Being an Orchestra and Band Director/Conductor at one of our large University,I have heard hundreds of singers sing our National Anthem so I was curious to see how a singer from American Idol will fare.I am not really familiar with Clay Aiken so I watched the video. My verdict:Mr. Aiken has an awesome voice, pure in tone and clarity, great phrasing, and an exceptional vocal range. One of the best singers of our national anthem that I have heard in my life.Wow what a great performance.Thank you to who ever posted this .
Clay's performance in this video was done about 31/2 years ago....and you can notice that he was using the lower register of his voice range during this very difficult song...just as he did when he sang 'All is Well'during his recent JNAT.
I have never heard anyone else do justice to your beautiful anthem..except this beautiful man, Clay Aiken. He has sung it a number of times, now, and each time he does, he stirs the heart and makes one proud of the United States of America..home of the free and land of the brave....
Unfortunately, the only joke I see here is the person who finds it necessary to tear someone down simply for honoring his country so proudly.
What is your problem?!!! This is a beautiful rendition of a song so many "singers" butcher. I would love to know what in the world Clay has done to you personally to deserve such treatment. You are the joke and a disgrace.
Tony = Joke
Fantastic! Great Job by Clay. I'm like everyone else, Where's the Joke! Best version I've ever heard. Clay Rulz and Tony Droolz! Lame, I know, but I wanted to say it anyways.
Go Clay! Very nice! (Tony must be tone deaf.)
Don't get the joke...and I have a good sense of humor
What an awesome singer! What a voice!
Perfection.........no joke......simply perfection.
Wow! That was great!
That was over three years ago. He has sang it for the World Series and I think his best was a couple of years ago for the Capitol Fourth celebration. They were both outstanding.
Joke? Where is the joke?
Nothing funny here.
It was a pleasure to watch, so I did smile.
I truly do not understand what why you think this is such a joke. Clay's National Anthem is great. Beautiful voice, on pitch, sung with power. Apparently you don't like Clay Aiken, which is fine. But that YOU think this is a joke, now that is the real joke.
Clay Aiken sings the National Anthem better than anyone I've heard. He is pitch perfect -something most other "singers" can only aspire to!
Clay has the heart and soul of a philanthropist. He is a kind, caring, hilarious and wonderful human being.
Sorry, tony, your joke sure fell flat didn't it?
I think the joke is on you!
Well, apparently Tony the joke is on you!
That was a beautiful performance of the National Anthem by Clay Aiken.....beautiful and inspiring..and reverently sung......
Most singer's only lip synch this song when performing it.....this was Clay Aiken singing live and what a joy to hear his version!
Whatever ails you Tony....I hope you have something to take for it....obviously you have some sort've ear problem...
Tony!!! this guy is fantastic, Don't get the joke. he is on key and has a way of reverently singing this song, as not many others can do. Get a life guy!!!!!!
Wow.....I've never seen that or heard Clay Aiken sing before. Heard of him, but I'll definitely be checking out his cds for sure.
What was the joke we were supposed to see?
Reverent
A Capella
Beautiful tone
Perfectly on key
Glorious voice
Excellent in every way.
What's the joke? I loved it.
Tony,
Two days after this was posted and had nothing but
extremely positive comments you have the NERVE to say nobody seemed to like it.
I actually think you
misunderstood what nobody likes. It starts with a T and ends with a Y, big guy. Do you have concerts selling out the same day they're announced? Can you even sing? If not then you can keep your big ugly jokes to yourself.
You just love getting hits on your sad so called columns, don'tcha!
Wow! I hadn't seen this before. Clay Aiken makes it look like the easiest thing in the world to sing our National Anthem. I don't know what the range of that song is, but I know that it starts low and jumps really high and few people can do justice to it. Clay should be very proud of how well he can sing our National Anthem. Bravo!
I'm not getting the joke either, this Tony guy must be a real loser. He needs to get a life, Clay Aiken has one magical voice no one else has. Tony, get the wax out of your ears or do you just have something against Clay!
This rendition of The Star Spangled Banner by Clay Aiken is without a doubt the best one I have ever heard! You only make yourself look bad by your remarks.
Did your mother not give you enough attention as a child so you now feel the need to become a bully?
Clay sang this song perfectly. If you don't like someones voice there's no need to say anything to the world about it. It's your very personal preference.
I bet the only reason you did this was to get responses like this on your website.
You are not only the JOKE, but your also a BIG TIME LOSER if this is what you do to get your kicks, it's really sad.
I don't get the joke either.I think Clay did a great job,as always. Is there a reason you feel the need to make fun of him.Have you always been a bully? I also can't believe you lied and said no one liked it. All I see here are positive comments.I think you have some problems, and maybe you should get some help.
Clay Aiken's rendition of our National Anthem is the most reverent, perfectly-sung and phrased version that I've ever heard. Joke? The only joke is the person who doesn't get Clay Aiken. He's awesome!
So where's the joke?? A fan here so I've heard this rendition before and it's probably my least favorite Aiken version of the National Anthem, just don't care for the trills, but still a heck of a lot better than most. His World Series and Capitol 4th versions are outstanding!!!
That was one of, if not THE best National Anthem I've ever heard.
The guy that thought there was a joke in there somewhere must be a Roseanne Barr fan???????????
Joke? What's the joke there? That was an incredible version of the National Anthem. In fact, it was perfect. And acapella at that. Incredible.
Tony who?
I am not sure i get the joke. I have not heard Clay sing at this event before but it is great, not his best, but very good. Better than many other versions I have heard including the one you had on March 1st.
So please enlighten us readers that visit this site, what is the joke? Why don't you download a video of you singing the anthem and then we might actually have a joke. LOSER!!!!!!!
Are you just trying to get hits on this or something? There is no joke when Clay sings. He has one of the best voices out there today.
I think the "joke" is on you. This is turning you into a laughing stock......ha ha ha ha ha.....
That felt good!
Tony Pierce you're a jackass and fugly to boot !! That rendition was awesome !!!
In the words of the egomaniac Simon Cowell, "You're Pathetic". Shame on you, and your blatant attempt for hits on your website.
I have not heard a more beautiful version of our national anthem. THERE IS NO JOKE HERE.......UNLESS IT,S YOU.
Tony, your comments are pure garbage! You don't know what you're talking about.
I loved the comment the orchestra conductor made about Clay when he sang with his orchestra. He said he has never heard such amazing vocals in a long time. This man also worked with Frank Sinatra for 8 years.
Clay sure did an amazing job working with different orchestras and different venues this last christmas, this is something many could not do without much practice but Clay put on 6 shows a week and even when he had vertigo he belted out All Is Well better than anyone in the world could sing but he has a vocal range that other envy. I love that fact that Clay doesn't need the toning that the others have to have just to sound good. hahahaha the laugh is on you. The concerts Clay has done and the orchestra he has performed with are is complete awe of Clay.
When he does appear on shows they are shocked when he comes without a backup tape. There comment is no one has ever come on a show without a backup tape. Clay doesn't need a backup tape he sings live.
Wow, what an amazing voice. Very nice.
youtube.com/watch?v=JVZb1opZMQY here is something truly remarkable.
I love that fact that at David Fosters Gala, David really bragged about Clay and his range and made Clay sing the high part in unchained melody 2 more times. David Foster look him up and look at all the awards he has won, he has also worked with Celione Dion and he said it took her 8 years to become famous. David is a man who knows an amazing voice.
I had to add this one. People in the world who really listen to music today are so used to hamburger that when a big juicy steak comes along they don't know what to expect. heheheheh
what you didn't realize is that this is really a great way to give Clay hits on the tube site. Thank you thank you thank you for helping us Clay get more hits.
Mr. Aiken hits a homerun again!!! beautiful rendition!!!!
Mr Pierce you sir are tone deaf..Clay was on pitch..and his rich powerful range was heart riveting..
quite frankly the laughs on you!!!!!
Shame on you. Shame on you for making fun of a decent human being. When is that a joke? Are you doing this just to get hits, because as we all know where Clay Aiken is there will be many.
The national anthem is one of the most difficult song to sing, while many have failed, Clay did a wonderful job here. Why don't you record yourself singing it and let's see who did a better job?!
A JOKE???? YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING, OR TRYING TO GET ATTENTION BECAUSE THAT RENDITION OF CLAY SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IS REALLY REALLY NICE. WHAT REASON WOULD YOU HAVE FOR CUTTING THIS RENDITION DOWN? Just say it dude, you aren't fond of Clay Aiken. Aww don't be embarrassed for liking Clay, he's cool in every way shape and form.
You have been scheduled to sing The National Anthem at the opening of baseball season in California.... think you can hack it?
I don't understand why tony feels it's necessary to be cruel. Does he not like Clay? Has he ever met Clay? Does he not like singers who stay on key and have an awsome vocal range?Does he not like people who care about children with disabilities, so much so that they form a foundation to give them a better quality of life? does he not like people who travel to dangerous places so they can report to congress about children in need? Does he not like people who give a huge share of their time to charities? does he not like people who are humble, but have a great sense of humor about themselves? Tony, what part of Clay don't you like?
Guy....You are the joke..I get the feelin you would prefer someone like Steve Tyler's version done at the WS a couple of years ago......talk about BAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDD!
Aiken's version is da bomb.....pure and simple!
Oh, I get it......you think you're cool right? LOLOLOL!
Aiken could sing the phone book and make it sound great!
This guy is the best!
Okay Tony, I don't get it; I saw absolutely nothing wrong with that rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. In fact it was pretty darn good being a cappella and all. I think you need to rethink your position; you're looking pretty foolish.
I was curious when I saw the comments you made on the Taylor Hicks' blog. No one seems to like Clay Aiken's rendition???? Gee, I guess you didn't read all the comments.
The only joke on this page YOU, sir.
Clay was awesome, as usual. You aren't even worthy to wash the feet of this talented, gorgeous, classy man! You're the only joke here!
Tony Pierce, you are SICK. Tone deaf sick. You ears may be impacted with wax. You need to see your doctor to have it cleaned.
You do not know how to appreciate an awesome rendition of the national anthem.
Can you sing it as well as Clay Aiken?
Let me hear you sing it and I wll give you my honest criticism.
Mr. Pierce, you are entitled to your own opinion, so I will not fault you for stating it. And just as you have the God-given right to verbalize your stand, please allow me to make my own and exercize the freedom of speech.
I hate to brag, but I would say that I am quite musically trained. I have a pretty strong background in music. And in all my years as a musician, I have NEVER heard a vocalist more brilliant than Clay Aiken.
I admit, I'm not a fan of American Idol. But I will not deny that it is a great part of American culture and can actually wring out stunning singers. And, I believe, that Mr. Aiken is the best singer ever to emerge from the show and will likely continue to be the benchmark for techinical perfection in the coming seasons.
This kid -- he's talented beyond compare. Amazing range. Pitch-perfect vocals. Stunning lung power. This all sums up to a jaw-dropping vocal prowess.
And what sets him apart from other singers is that he can convey emotion through his voice and can change his sound to suit the feeling.
In this case, it is heart-felt reverence. Clay Aiken brought tears to my eyes when he sang the US National Anthem -- and this, coming from a non-American, is a feat all in itself.
Basically, all I'm trying to say, is that this man is an absolutely phenomenal vocalist. You should get used to Clay. He's going to be around for decades to come, making his mark in the music world.
shut up!
Clay rules!
First of all, that was simply beautiful. Second of all, I just can't understand why anyone wants to ridicule this find young man. Tony, who are you anyway? If you don't like Clay Aiken, why are you wasting your time dissing him? Do you not have anything more interesting in your life to take up your time? Clay Aiken is talented, has perfect pitch and a beautiful voice. You may not like his voice, but you can't deny his talent, no matter how hard you try. I just don't understand why you're trying. BTW, what have you done for special needs people lately? What have you done for anyone lately? Clay Aiken has done more in the past week for people, in a positive way, than you probably have in your entire life. I don't know you, have no idea who you are or what you do. But it's apparent that you spend more time on yourself and your weak jokes than you spend on making life easier and happier for others.
I have heard many renditions of our National Anthem and this is the purest. What an amazing talent. Why would you question this performance?
I know that Clay Aiken will be around for years to come and I hope I get to hear him perform the National Anthem in person. Long live OMC.
Isn't it amazing that certain people will not stop putting people down just to get attention and feel important? Such low esteem!!! I am no psychologist but I think these people have difficulty accepting that other people are better than them so they put them down instead. Is it too excrutiatingly painful to admit that Clay Aiken is not just a singer, but a dynamic and engaging performer and artist as well?
I guess we have to consider the source.
Clay's vocals are spot on. And it's acapella you idiot! That in it's self is amazing. Get a life, you JERK!
Um yeah, in an age of metiocrity, I guess excellence is a joke. I heard no punchline in that rendition, only sheer beauty. Clay Aiken's voice is a National Treasure!!!
Deal with it!
I bet Tony thinks that Clay Aiken is a joke because Tony believes everything he reads in the tabloids. Right Tony? Can't think for yourself Tony? Didn't think so. Clay Aiken has been the target of a major smear campaign for over a year now.
I am Canadian and I hope thre is somebody llike Clay Aiken who can sing their national anthem with such respect and glory.
The joke is on you, sir..or should I change that to idiot?
Putting another human being down is an awfully small way to look big.
Yup. Still laughing. At you. Ha Ha. Clay has a fantastic voice. It's only one of the reasons his fans love him,but it's a rock solid reason. He doesn't go begging for singing engagements. He is highly requested. He is sold out at every concert. You should do so well. Jealous? Jimmy Kimmel used to mock him on late night till he actually MET Clay. Try checking out some YouTube for yourself. They are great friends now. That says a lot about the both of them. And you. I want to know-are you tone deaf? Did you even listen? We'll give you another chance. Let us know. We're waiting.
You honestly consider this wonderful rendition of that National Anthem a joke? Not possible.
It's more likely that, since you can't get any feedback by writing something interesting, thought provoking, and intelligent, you've decided to resort to making fun of someone, knowing that the mere mention of Clay's name will garner you tons of comments...mine too apparently. *rolls eyes*
It's easy to be respectful of Clay Aiken singing the National Anthem. He sings it well. He is also a decent human being.
I don't blame anonymous for not giving a name. Such an off base comment. At 81 yrs. old ,I haven't heard any pop singer that can match Clay's voice. I dare any of the neysayers to try. Why don't people sing the praises, not only of his voice, but of all of the good that he does ? I'm not from Raleigh, but just glad to claim him from our old North State. Love you Clay and keep on keeping on. It was a joy for my grand daughter and I to get to speak with your mom when you were here in Greensboro at Christmas. Hopefully you got the little lapel double flag ( U.S. and Marine ) that I tried to have given to you to wear for Bret. Don't really think that you will see this, but anyhow, take care.
That was one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard.......I don't get it.....what's the joke? Just the poster, I think.
The joke is on YOU honey !
Obviously, you are not a fan of Clay and just wanted to "try" to bring him and his talent down
to your level.... with is very low.
Admit it. The man has a talented voice and nothing you do or say will ever change that.
That was beautiful.
Thanks for posting that clip.
Clay Aiken has a gorgeous voice-- to match a gorgeous face, spirit, soul and personality.
So... "Oh say can you see...?" how uneducated your original "joke" commentary was?
I feel sorry for people who need to bring others down to make themselves feel better. Inferiority complexes are so unattractive.
Altho this video was from about 3 years ago, it was nice to watch, yet again, to see Clay sing our National Anthem with such respect... and perfert pitch !!!
THANK YOU, for putting up the Kelly Clarkson and
Taylor Hicks versions of National Anthem.
I hope by now, if you follow my advice, you know
that the best rendition is that of Clay Aiken's.
He is beyond compare.
More power to my MAN, Clay!
Leonor
LAist, he sings like an angel! Go, Clay!
Clay sings the National Athem the best Ive ever
heard. Tony your whole body wouldn't measure up to Clay's little toe. You have proven that a
hundred times over. If I were you I would just
plain "Shutup"
Dude I don't get it. What was the joke? Did you put the wrong video up or what? That was one of the best renditions of that song I've ever heard. What a voice! Very few people can really sing this song well, but this was just about perfect. Loved it. Thank you for putting it up.
