This is absolutely pathetic. Los Angeles is supposed to be a cultural centre of excellence bar none, at least in North America. Kmozart wasn't perfect but at least it provided some kind of cultural benefit. Country music could never hold a candle to the likes of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven, to name a few. I blame it on the dumbing-down of America. You get what you deserve! Mindless music for the moronic masses.

Oh and the comment about KCSN - that's great for people up in northridge, but 88.5 is the standard station number for many college-based radios, so out here in Orange County, I pick up KSBN - Saddleback College.

noooooo!!!

I listen to KMZT every morning and evening during drive-time. I like that they play show-tunes, movie themes, and a good ol' rocking Sousa every morning.

KUSC just doesn't hack it... too much opera, too much talk in the wee-hours/weekends.

There are soooo many other radio stations that share formats... make one of THEM go away!

Cha Ching.

Who cares about what format its going to be? Bottom line, is that all what really matters is the bottom line. Country music attracts more listeners which attracts more profit in advertising. Who cares about the arts, really? Not a radio station owner. They care about money.

This, Folks, is business as usual.

I, too, miss having an FM country station, but dang. It's still up and running for now; here's to hoping it stays.

I wish we could have room for all formats in LA. Classical. Country. All we need to do is get rid of one of those pop stations that sound alike: KBIG, KISS, Movin 93.9...

There has been a need since August 17th 2006 for an FM country station in Los Angeles and Orange County, with the loss of KZLA many country music fans lost their music and their family of radio personalities.
Country music is the 6th most popular music format, reaching almost 40 percent of the adult population every week.
As stated by Hillbilly Rockstar, We are empathetic to your situation should KMZT become a country music station and hope that there will be another station such as 91.5 KUSC that classical music fans can tune into for their music genre.

While it is not ideal to have to leave one set of loyal listeners for another, there are more country fans in LA and OC than classical. I enjoy both, but would just assume hear classical via other means than FM radio. Country music (being the most popular genre in the US) deserves an FM home in LA and OC.

It is the same situation with KZLA being replaced. We are empathetic and hope that the other stations operated by Mt. Wilson will be able to support you in the future.

Hate to tell 1260 AM has been country since December. It is the same station as 540 AM. I listen to it everyday do you?

KMZT owner Saul Levine frequently flips formats on his AM stations, but has kept classical on the FM station since 1989 (when he flipped from jazz). I gotta imagine KMZT makes him some nice coin, since it targets a hugely upscale audience. Which makes me wonder whether this would be a good idea (I'd say not). By the way, don't forget that KCSN-FM also plays classical music during the day.

sorry about the double-post. the server was telling me the original post failed...

at any rate, for me it just comes down to not getting why one format must be forsaken for another. i despise modern country music, and if k-moz is gone, it will be missed by me.

I may be mis-reading, but this makes it sound as though LA will then be left without a classical station... that is tragic, and hopefully untrue.

the irony though ken, is that the dixie chicks probably had a better chance of being played on k-mozart than k-anythingcountry since that whole genre is trying to pretend that the chicks dont exist.

I have a hard time hearing 91.5 in my house or car, even though I like it better than k-moz. But it streams, so that's fine for home. But jesus, shouldn't a city like Los Angeles maybe have *two* classical/orchestral stations? K-mozart does a lot of film soundtracks and more commercially stuff that is fun, too.

And I am very proud of the Dixie Chicks for making many millions of dollars recording utter nashville-pop shit and stevie nicks' covers. That is a brave stand against the neocons or something!
