Watching one of the best action TV shows, The Unit, on Tuesday night, we got nerdy for a second. As the elite military group known as The Unit (who only answer to the President), attempt to foil a plan of a terrorist's foul play in a Hamburg, Germany subway station, we could not help but notice Hamburg's subway station is just like the Universal Red Line.
And as we all know, LA's subway stations are featured on TV everyday while locals still learn a subway exists. Though, if you watch closely, things can be confusing. In the first few episodes of 24, a terrorist takes the Red Line from the Civic Center to Union Station. In reality, it looks as if Jack Bauer enters that station at 7th/Metro from the street and runs across the North Hollywood platform underground to catch the train to Union Station before a bomb blows.
And if it were not enough abuse of the NoHo Station, a recent episode of NUMB3RS featured the Valley station in script, but filmed it somewhere downtown making North Hollywood look as downtown as well... downtown.
For a normal Universal City picture, it's after the jump.

What, you just noticed?
Alias, for example, took advantage of the avergare American's lack of travel and general dumbassery to try and sell us a bunch of citites that suspisciously all looked like LA (or obviously US places). Brazil looked nothing like the real place does. No. 1 Barberini is a non existant address in Rome (i lived 5 mins from where it would be, it does not exist). Etc, etc.
Mind you none of this is new. I live in Canada and you see Toronto trying to pass for NYC a lot on the big and small screens. Vancouver for SF and so on.

good catch Zach
i guess subway stations are good for film crews because they're totally closed by 12:45am and dont have any distractions until the morning.
I have to admit something here... the first time I rode the subway was when I worked on location with Without a Trace in their first season. We started subway filming after the last train for the night.
