We get a lot of email. Some people send us one or two things a month, some send us one or two things a day. Some send all the Internet myths and crap and scams. Some send us things that we really just don't understand.
Today we got something that at first we tossed aside but later thought, we know this is a joke, but if it were real, MAYBE we'd have a slight or not-so-slight decline in unwanted children, sexually transmitted disease, and abortions. Sorta important issues.
Most companies have no problem slapping their name on just about anything they can.
Can't wait for them to start endorsing, or better yet, providing, such inexpensive and yet priceless solutions to some of the biggest headaches of the day.
After the jump see what the future could look like...

What thuff hell, tony pierce?
I don't wanna be another jiff smithy buffington, but this crap is pointless and has nothing to do with the point of this -ist blog. On top of that, this particular crap post is lame and uninteresting and probably old as all hell. LAist is usually pretty great, but I find myself agreeing more and more with smithingson wiff liffsontoningson lately. Don't let it become just another blog that's dead on the inside.
If you don't think that AIDS, unwanted children, and abortions have nothing to do with LA, you're just as wacky as he is. If you don't agree that safe sex is important to LA in 2007 then just say so. But don't tell me that a city thats home to Magic Johnson and Easy-E shouldn't be writing about condoms and safe sex.
Okay, there are a few things I'd like to point out here. One, I don't feel this post was really about preventing STDs or promoting contraceptives. I think it was just about the humour in the innuendo caused by restating common corporate catch phrases in a sexual light. Maybe it involved condoms, but that was not the main issue at hand in the post.
Second, the problems you mentioned are worldwide. AIDS and unwanted pregnancies are not specific to LA. Sure, we Angelinos have to deal with them, but that's like saying a post about foot odor has to do with LA because some people here have fungus problems. I'm not saying that every post in this blog should pertain directly to Los Angeles or its citizens and whatnot, especially because it's not my website to run. However, having said that, it would be nice if they actually had something valid to do with our city.
Third, if I wanted to see this tripe, I'd visit ebaum's world, god help me.
Aside from that, I kind of like this place. Keep up the mostly good work
thank you for the compliment.
as for your first point: i think you're missing is the second paragraph of the post. there i clearly said that what was just another bit of email, just more of ebaum type stuff that we get, it struck us "what if it were real?"
if it were real, cities like LA would benefit big time. "Important issues", i wrote.
as for your second and third points, discussions about condoms, and especially corporate sponsorship of condoms is far from tripe. and its something, that if it would happen, would probably start here, as it should.
