Tim Hardaway Banned From NBA All-Star Game For Saying He Hates Gays

#106 Former Miami Heat star Tim Hardaway went on a Miami sports talk radio show and had no problem going on and on about how he hates homosexuals, flat out admitting to being homophobic.

Later he apologized, but the NBA decided today to ban the former All-Star from any activities from this year's All-Star Game in Las Vegas.

"It is inappropriate for him to be representing us given the disparity between his views and ours," NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement Thursday.

Best known for his cross-over dribble, Hardaway, who owns several businesses in Florida, said the following, among other things on the radio show:

You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I'm homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States. - NBC4

dear laist,

you guys are super awesome despite never actually talking about the city of L.A.

That said, as the second biggest city in the US, can you put the pressure on gothamist to get their comments section working without a big time out all the time?

thanks.

Hi Matty,

9 out of the 13 stories on this page are completely about Los Angeles. Thanks for failing to notice.

With that said -- what the fuck is wrong with you Tim?!

dear henry d,

no problem.

dear matty

theres another city other than LA?

oh the one way over there?

yeah we'll get right on the horn with gothamist to tell them to get crackin on their comments so they can get some brilliant more lines from you.

theyre totally missing out.

for the record matty is not another name i use to complain on this site..... but i appreciate his sentiments lol

for the record, if you havent gotten the hint, we couldnt give a shit what either of you have to say.

Good grief, Tardaway drops a hate bomb and all people can do here is bag on the messenger and something about the comment drag at Gothamist?

Little Bus!

God bless Hardaway!

It's a good thing that people can be honest and speak their minds like that. Screw political correctness. I hope kids all over America look up to Hardaway as a role model and know that we don't HAVE to like gays to be accepted in society - that we, as free Americans - can actually, GASP, dislike homosexuality and still get by without being harassed for it by the politcally correct liberals of society.

Once again, God bless Hardaway, and as far as I see it, he owes NO ONE an apology! Now we have to apologise for not liking a certain group or something? I don't think so.

What gall - the gay people think that they are untouchables or something? That we all have to like them and approve of them? Welcome to the real world... some people are never going to like it and you know what - these people have a right to speak their minds, too. It's called Freedom of Speech ... and it not only applies to liberals who embrace homosexuality, but it applies to those of us who do not as well.

Get used to it.

Well Alright Now,

It is an absolute disgrace that in the time and age that we live in we are punished for voicing our opinions. Please explain to me why I as a heterosexual, have to feel that I can not say that I am opposed to homosexuality without there being a dire price to pay. If you are bold enough to come out of the closet, then you should be able to take all that comes with it. To even think for a second that the whole world is going to accept you is just not smart. Since when did we become a culture that has to cater to and accomodate gays? If you don't want to hear anyones opinion of your "lifestyle" then keep it to yourself. I think that Tim Hardaway had every right to speak his mind with no apologies. If anyone should be apologizing, it should be the league for not allowing him to play. He may not represent everyone, but I'll bet he represents the great majority. Lets' see if the commissioner would go and take a shower with a outed homosexual, or even get undressed in the same locker room. But since Tim does not represent the leagues views I guess the homosexual community does. Now that't a real pat on the butt.... mmm mmm mmm...
