We don't know what's in the water at local comedy clubs but we like it. First it was Kramer and then Damon Wayans and then Anthony Michael Hall at the Laugh Factory and this Saturday Joe Rogan chose to use The Comedy Store to confront Carlos Mencia for allegedly stealing jokes.
Here's how he explained it on his website:
I had a set at the comedy store Saturday night, and after I closed, I was bringing on the next comedian, a guy named Kirk Fox that works for Carlos Mencia. I introduce him saying that he's a funny guy, and that he opens on the road for Carlos "Menstealia." That’s the name we call him at the comedy store, and of course Carlos doesn't like it one bit.Judging from the video after the jump, Fear Factorman got into the mind of Mencia, which unfortunately cost him further gigs at the Comedy Store because according to Rogan, Mencia complained to the management of the Sunset Strip comedy landmark that he would feel physically threatened by Rogan if the two were working at the same club together.Carlos was apparently in the room when I said this, and the perfect combination of ego and timing made him decide that this was the night to put his foot down. As I got off stage and headed towards the back of the room, he grabbed the mike away from Kirk, and said that I was too much of a pussy to say that shit to his face.
Which to me, is something akin to the hottest girl in the world daring you to fuck her while you're standing there in her bedroom naked with a boner.
So Rogan was given a break from performing at the Comedy store, however he was able to book some shows at the last minute at the Improv on Melrose tonight (also tomorrow at 8:30p and Sat at 10p).
Mencia will be at the Comedy Store this weekend. If you go, video some of it for us.

Carlos is a sad, hollow-minded man. First he got the You Tube folks to take down the video (people re-posted and got around it somehow, thank goodness). Then he claimed he felt physically threatened by Joe to get him banned from the Comedy Store--what a load?! And now he's gotten Joe's agent to drop him (they share the same agent apparently)!
To me, this just reinforces Joe's assertion that Carlos steals jokes. He got owned in front of a crowd of people and then knew the video would go viral and started thinking about what a punk he'd look like to everyone else. So he uses what Hollywood clout he has to piss on Joe.
But the winner in all this is still Joe because he has the cajones to stand up for himself and for the art of stand-up. He could apologize to Carlos and make all this crap stop but he won't. I've got mad respect for the man.
that was great. I'm not a fan of Joe Rogan but that was really well put together, I think his point would have been more powerful if he didn't do the posturing/in-your-face/cursing stuff but kudos to him and eff Mencia for trying to shutdown the vid if it's true that's what he's doing.
Carlos is a loser and just not funny. If he's stealing jokes I hope he steals better ones in the future.
What's funny is I don't think we would be talking about this if Dave Chappell hadn't left his show. Mind of Mencia is a very hollow imitation of that show. Not a fan of Rogan's, but I may become one.
Carlos Mencia is as unfunny to me as Joe Rogan usually is, but I have great respect now for Rogan. He stood up, called the guy out and anyone with any brains can see from the fallout that Rogan's telling the truth.
All the actions that Carlos Mencia, or should I say Ned Arnel Mencia, such as using the "copyright" argument to pull this video off youtube, getting Joe banned from the Comedy Store, etc. just emphasize what type of person he is and that this guy has no backbone and values. It shows he's willing to do anything to get ahead....and that includes stealing jokes.

If Joe doesn't come up with sufficent evidence, I don't believe him. Carlos lost his touch after the first season.
Well, Joe is hot or is he really trying to jump-start a dead career? Much to do about nothing, and believe me that was a hell of a lot of work to show that carlos's real name was "Ned." Who doesn't know that? BTW with all the quick and poor editing, I thought I was watching another propaganda piece by Michael Moore; just less polished but just as factual. And that's not a compliment. Perhaps this should be entitled: Joe's documentary - my failing career without Andy Dick. (Really, Joe if you had any talent, this stuff wouldn't happening to you. You would still have an agent, still have a gig, and maybe somebody would actually pay to see you. So quit the blame shifting and get back to work as a bagger at the local 7-11.).

And inclosing, it rather doesn't matter to me whom wrote what, but rather is it funny, and by that is the comedian funny. Do you get my pt? OK, I didn't think so. Said another way: Carlos is funny and he's on TV, superbowl commercials, and on a huge tour, which will ultimately make him very rich. Carlos has a method in connecting to his audience both via cable and live. Some don't like him, but apparently most do. Joe doesn't have the talent/charisma to do the same; sorry but facts are facts. Is Joe selling out anyplace besides the Dayton Chuckle Shack (one night, one showing only)? Joe's not any of the aforementioned, so he acts out. This is what child psychiatrist's will tell you what happens to children when they are frustrated -- they act out. So Lori keep dreaming about our encounter....you're just another Joe Blow to me.
I love Mencia AND Joe Rogan, but huge respect to Joe for calling Carlos out. It's lame to stray from your own material, and people in the business know it. As for calling Rogan a pussy...I wouldn't recommend that. He's one tough dude, and Mencia is clearly no match. So instead of pounding the guy, he threw verbal punches onstage. No foul there.

Who Is Joe Rogan?
in the hope that the good people of america can emancipate themselves from the shadow of bush and see beyond to a future where it is worth accusing and punishing the corrupt, might I suggest we reflect on Mencia calling Rogan out and insulting him when rogan had actually been prepared to maintain decorum by using comedic quips.
