Drawing Restraint
Why woo your sweetheart with such tediously traditional notions as flowers, teddy bears and edible panties when you could watch Matthew Barney and his inamorata Bjork going at each other with flensing knives on the deck of a Japanese whaling vessel in Drawing Restraint 9? And if that's not enough Barney for you, there's the making-of documentary Matthew Barney: No Restraint. His work has sometimes been described as a "hauntingly dreamlike fantasy and surrealist odyssey," but I think Vern of Aint It Cool has the best take on Matthew Barney.

Bonnie & Clyde / Penn & Teller Get Killed
It's a double feature of buddy films when bank robber Clyde Barrow (Warren Beatty) meets Bonnie Parker (Faye Dunaway) in Arthur Penn's classic 1967 film Bonnie And Clyde, which is followed by Penn & Teller Get Killed, a black comedy that trails the titular magicians on a cross-country trip after Penn announces he might welcome a threat on his life.

Days Of Glory
Melnitz Movies presents a sneak preview of Days Of Glory, Algeria’s official entry for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award. Written and directed by Rachid Bouchareb (Little Senegal), the film follows four North African men who enlist in the French army during WWII.

Shoot the Piano Player & Band of Outsiders
François Truffaut meets Jean-Luc Godard when the New Beverly screens a double bill of Shoot the Piano Player and Band of Outsiders, a culture-bending blend of French New Wave films inspired by American gangster movies.

Woman in the Dunes
Floral arranger turned filmmaker Hiroshi Teshigahara brings to the screen Kobo Abe's haunting novel about a man who seeks shelter for the night in a remote village and is trapped into living with a woman who must spend most of her time trying to prevent the ever shifting sand dunes from swallowing up the pit that is her home. As the days stretch on and his hopes for escape fades, he begins an erotic relationship with the isolated woman.

Pan-African Film Festival & Party
As part of the Pan-African Film Festival the Coalition for a Sustainable Africa (CSAfrica) will present two documentaries that explore the impact of AIDS on Sub-Saharan Africa. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and then a fundraiser after-party at Fais Do Do. Left Behind looks at life through the eyes and voices of Kenya's street children, prostitutes, gang leaders and slum dwellers, while Baba Mandela follows Kevin Kariuki, a homeless 10 year-old as he leaves his home in Kibera, East Africa's biggest slum, and travels the slums of Nairobi, rural Kibwezi, Mt. Kenya and Lake Victoria.
