LAst Night's Action: Ducks Seeing Stars
Stars 1, Ducks 0 - Rookie goalie Mike Smith blocked 32 shots for Dallas and didn't allow a goal in six power plays, leading the Stars to a tight win against their division rival. The game featured a fight after just 35 seconds, resulting in a couple 5 minute penalties and another classic photo for LAist. Anaheim's wheels started to fall off just before the All Star break, and the team has spiraled to 3-6-1 in their last 10 games. They still boast the best record in arguably the NHL's toughest division, three points ahead of San Jose and six ahead of Dallas.
Kings 4, Predators 1 - This was the kind of game that reaffirms our love of sports. Nashville, with the best record in the West, couldn't handle Los Angeles, with the worst record. Two fights broke out in one period, 42 penalty minutes were served, and rookie Anze Kopitar found the back of the net twice.
Beckham Watch - Not only is he back in the lineup for Real Madrid, he notched a key goal in the team's latest victory.
WTF Moment of The Day - After a clutch victory over crosstown rival USC to maintain sole possession of first place in the Pac 10, UCLA suffered a major emotional letdown. For the second season in a row, the Bruins lost to West Virginia 70-65. This is the third away loss of the season for UCLA, second season in a row with a loss to the Mountaineers, and the first loss out of conference. They still have zero losses at home.
Elsewhere - USC women's hoops beat UCLA for the fifth consecutive time ... The AFC beat the NFC in the Pro Bowl for the eigth time in the past 11 years. Local boy Carson Palmer was named MVP after leading the game winning drive.
