Bruins 70, Trojans 65 - For the second time this season, LAist correctly predicted a barn burner. UCLA didn't have a lead until the final six minutes, when USC's foul trouble unraveled an impressive game from the matchup's traditional underdog. The Bruins went 23-31 at the line, compared to a mere 3-5 for the Trojans. USC kept it close until the final seven seconds, hitting a string of deep shots to pull within three. A replay removed a Trojan point because the shooter's foot was touching the three point line, and the game was finally out of reach. UCLA demonstrated their strength down the stretch, and is in the drivers seat to finish first in the conference. LAist predicts a rematch in the finals of the Pac 10 Tournament.
Cavs 94, Clippers 77 - Even with a weak performance by LeBron James, Los Angeles just couldn't hang with Cleveland. They dropped their third in a row and are now a game under .500. Corey Maggette was out with "the flu" one game after criticizing coach Mike Dunleavy for not getting enough minutes. The move added fuel to the speculation the Maggette is fishing for a trade as the deadline nears.
Sharks 3, Ducks 2 - Anaheim split a home-and-home with San Jose, with each team winning on the road. The Shark's Jonathan Cheechoo netted two goals in each contest. The Duck's lead over their division rival is down to three points.
Elsewhere - Why is USC football so good? Today was national signing day for high school seniors, and the Trojans have the #1 ranked class (by at least one major service) for the fifth year in a row. Some may argue that Florida's class is better because they had more scholarships to offer this year and signed nine more players. USC fans are enjoying quality over quantity, welcoming the top three players in the country into the Trojan family ... The US national soccer team defeated Mexico 2-0. Beckham may have ushered in a new era of big spending in domestic soccer, but beating Mexico is nothing new. America is 8-2-1 since 2000 and 7-0-1 when playing on this side of the border. Ole!
