The results of the toxicological report on Mario Danelo were released today, and they revealed that the USC place kicker had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 when he fell off the cliff to his death in San Pedro last month.
Despite the fact that .23 is just about three times the legal limit, the coroner's office says it still can't determine why Danelo fell.
Uh...
With 89 points, the red-shirted 21-year-old junior led the Trojans in scoring last year. He had one more year of football eligibility. A San Pedro High School star, he was the son of former NFL kicker Joe Danelo.
Danelo was a walk-on at USC; his career totals were 26 of 28 field goals (including a nice little run of 15 in a row) and 127 of 134 extra points.

bummer
I think the "undetermined" manner of death is related to the intent (ie: suicide or accident). Hard to say it wasn't a contributing factor. What really irks me is the KCBS (740AM) coverage where they interviewed a USC kid saying that .23 isn't all that drunk, and that the legal limit (which is the legal limit TO DRIVE, there's no BAC limit when it comes to not driving) is low. While I think some people may be perfectly capable of safe driving at .08, .23 is beyond blackout for many people. Even if you're a giant football player (Danelo was a kicker, not a lineman) that's really drunk.
Actually, no it's not Adam. 2 beers in an hour puts you over the legal limit to drive. 3 times the legal limit = 6-7 beers over the course of a few hours. That's hardly "beyond blackout" for many people let alone a 210 pound collegiate athlete who was in incredible shape.
