LAst Night's Action: Several Surprise Saturday
Lakers 118, Wizards 102 - Some say the Gilbert Arenas - Kobe Bryant rivalry has sprouted, and LAist is pretty sure it's budding. Both players have denied any personal friction despite mild trash talking in the media. Their exciting play against each other in Washington demonstrated talent and mutual admiration. Kobe had 39 points and Arenas had 37, several of which came on spectacular plays against one another.
Kings 7, Panthers 0 - It wasn't the Miracle On Ice, but it was a little mind boggling. In Florida, the Panthers, with a strong home record, fell to the league's worst road team (arguably the worst, period). The gaudy stat of seven goals was matched only Sean Burke's 40 saves. That's one for every birthday he has celebrated.
Predators 3, Ducks 0 - Nashville shut out Anaheim thanks to 36 saves by Tomas Vokoun and two power play goals. The Predators maintain a slight lead on the Ducks for first place in the Western Conference.
Trojans 71, Ducks 68 - Oregon should visit LA more often. After falling to UCLA in a battle for first place in the Pac 10, USC took down a ranked opponent for the fifth time this season. Troy moved into sole possession of second place, ahead of three ranked teams and behind their crosstown rival.
Bruins 82, Beavers 35 - UCLA beat Oregon State, but no game was played. You see, for a game to take place, two teams have to show up.
