LAst Night's Action: Local Hoops 1-2 in League
Bruins 69, Ducks 57 - UCLA hoops grabbed sole possession of first place in the Pac 10 as the conference's top two teams faced off at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins dominated immediately after the opening tipoff to avenge an earlier loss to Oregon which knocked them out of the nation's #1 ranking. The were also eager to put their last game -- a loss at Stanford -- behind them. They did so in convincing fashion and extended their home winning streak to 16 games. Four Bruins scored in double digits, led by Aaron Afflalo with 17 and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute with 15. The Duck's own guard named Aaron (Brooks) had 14, just behind teammate Bryce Taylor with 17.
Blackhawks 3, Kings 2, OT - Usually it's a good thing to play the worst team in the conference, but the Kings get to do that every day in practice. The next best thing would be -- drum roll -- the second worst team in the conference! They were evenly matched through three periods, but Chicago scored in the first minute of OT to maintain their stranglehold on "just a little better than Los Angeles." The Kings can try to catch them in three rematches next month.
Elsewhere - USC hoops handled Oregon State 73-56 to move into second in the Pac 10 behind UCLA ... SportsIllustrated.com recently upgraded the look of their site. Now it's Yahoo! Sports' turn ... If you miss college football, here's a good laugh from Johnny Knoxville at USC's practice a few years ago.
