LAist Interview: Morgan Nagler of Whispertown 2000

Morgan is the short one

Whispertown 2000 is an LA based band that sounds the way a soft velour blanket being dragged across the backs of your knees feels. The band is sweet, silly, and serious about bringing you traditional rock song writing styles, with a female edge. Whispertown 2000 play a lot of LA shows, and aren't afraid to make friends with their crowd. Having been to one of their shows, I wandered in feeling like a stranger who didn't belong... And because of the band's approach to performances, I didn't just walk out of there feeling warm and fuzzy inside, but i also felt like I had made new buddies. So without any further delay, lead singer Morgan Nagler agreed to be interviewed by LAist, and this is what she said:

How long have you been a song writer?
On and off.. started out around Snoop Dogg's debut, then it was forgotten until I had no idea what was on the radio, and it has been going strong since I loved Eminem.. just a little later than everyone else found out about him..

Who are your influences/inspirations?
Bobbie Gentry, Elliott Smith, The Beatles, Notorious BIG, and Bobby (Dylan)

What new things is Whispertown 2000 working on?
Our new Record!! It's going to have a strong Death metal influence... Back to the Future, with a hint of The Great Gatsby.

How are you friends with Jenny Lewis?
I hate her stupid guts and think she's a fat cow! ...stupid coat tail rider.

What's the best/worst thing about being part of Whispertown 2000?
Living in the lap of luxury with my friend in the storage area of a really cool house / Dodging paparazzi

What's your process for song writing, is it just you?
I write the song, then usually Tod Adrian Wisenbaker comes up with a sweet hook and/or weird drum beat.. then Vanesa Corbala, Colt Maloney, and Casey Wisenbaker and us vibe out until the bass, other vocals, and other weird parts make the song sound just like the song.

What are your favorite LA hang outs?
My house, the stoop outside Colt and Casey's ppartment, the window at Vanesa and Tod's apartment, Cactus Taqueria, and the Griffith Park Observatory, and the Hard Rock at City Walk.

When you get to the top of the mountain, what will you see on the other side?
"Ohohoh I was, on top of a mountain, lookin down, on where I'd been...come slowly, then like it was always there, you're drinkin up from the golden cup.." / another mountain

Where can people get the Whispertown 2000 merchandise i saw at your show?
Just at shows right now.. Livin' in a Dream is available at Sea Level Records in Echo Park, and at myspace.com/whispertown2000.. we're trying to get merch up there too, but it's all screened thrift store stuff, so you kind of want to see it or try it on or something...

What final words do you have for the LAist.com readers?
Think you're so great... You're not soooooo great!!

Thanks Morgan!
