Almost one year to the day, Kobe Bryant's 81 point performance was awarded the 2006 Moment Of The Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
This is the second year the organization has hosted an awards ceremony, which also named Elton Brand (Clippers) and Lisa Leslie (Sparks) as Sportsman and Sportswoman Of The Year. The Dodger's Ned Colletti and the Duck's Brian Burke were named Co-Executives Of The Year after both GMs led their teams into the playoffs in 2006.
The awards were determine by a pannel selected by the LA Sports Council, who also ranked all of the top ten moments in LA sports for 2006. The public was allowed to vote online for each individual team's moment of the year.
The organization has been ranking Greatest Moments going back to 1996. The top spot in each of the past eight years has been related to college football, with the last three going to USC bowl victories. This year two USC losses were high on the list, with the USC-Texas Rose Bowl at #2 and the UCLA upset of the Trojans coming in at #4.
Many of the organization's top ten moments match LAist's own list. The two complete lists of Greatest Moments as released by The LA Sports Council are after the jump.
