Coldwater Canyon Diptych

If you're heading out the door for some cross valley/basin traveling today, avoid Coldwater Canyon as it is closed for road resurfacing from 7am to 5pm. Only residential traffic may travel on the road between Mulholland Dr. and Potosi Ave. The same holds for next Saturday.

Ever wonder why Coldwater is named what it is? Well, here's what the LACityNerd had to say:

Both Laurel and Coldwater were initially canyon routes between Sherman (a town at the current outlet of Laurel named for General Moses) & Beverly Hills and the towns of Van Nuys & Lankershim in the Valley. The "Coldwater" part comes from the waters that ran into the area that is now Beverly Hills which, in the 19th century was unique because of the water. (Today, The Franklin Canyon reservoir reminds us of the waters that made Beverly Hills so desirable before it had the cache of Beverly Hills.) Both canyon roads started up the hill on the Beverly Hills/Sherman side and eventually made there way over to the Valley side.
