LA Times columnist Steve Lopez and readers may have started the tipping point for declaring a transit emergency in Los Angeles: "I'd rather stick hot pokers in my eyes than drive downtown from Santa Monica on a weeknight. Saturday nights are almost as bad. Therefore, I go to Disney Hall only on Sunday." (LA Times)
