A.M. News: Magic Mountain Stays! and more...

A Cool Wall in Eagle Rock

Brrrrrrrrr... did you enjoy cuddling under your blankets last night during that blast of cold weather? Don't forget that it snowed in Los Angeles less than a year ago (and will SCV be so lucky?). Maybe this is Los Angeles' way of saying hello to Beckham with a little frosty cold treat. We're enjoying it. After all, some of us are transplants.

Besides the top stories that you probably already know by now, A.M. News will now be delivering some more off-the-beaten-path stories, as well our favorite local city and civic beat:

City in Action
- Abandoned Shopping Carts. Dirty Pretty Things or Quotidian Drudge? (LA Times)
- Construction Noise. Disturbing Neighbors or Good for the Hood? (SFVBJ)
- Police Transparency post Devin Brown outcome: Long Time Needed. (LA Times)
- Human trafficking: The Police are now trained. (Daily News)
- Neighborhood Councils: Brown Act Usage or Not? (CityWatch)

Indie Coffee Shop Gets The Boot
At one of the most northernmost ends of the Valley, a great coffee shop, Tia Chucha's Cafe and Cultural Center, is set to sail goodbye. "Sandra Cisneros, whose book 'The House on Mango Street' has inspired millions, has read here. Chilean hip-hop artists have performed, too, drawing hundreds of youths. There are Aztec dancers on Mondays and film screenings on Wednesdays." (Daily News)

Jew Are Here
"Which section of Greater Los Angeles has the densest concentration of Jewish residents? The urban core, including Fairfax and Pico-Robertson? Maybe Beverly Hills and the Westside?" (Jewish Journal)

Magic Mountain
As the Santa Clarita Valley diversifies with an addition of another Indian restaurant and a new Mexican grocery store, the oldie but goodies are there to stay as well. Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor live on.
(Daily News - SC)
