As some of you may have noticed, I'm new to the LAist family. I love music and I am happy to provide music listings several times a week.
While reading through the archives I saw how Gwen Stefani announced dates to the first part of her tour and seemed to be skipping LA until the very end. That wouldn't appear suspicious if it weren't for a two-day break from April 25 until April 28.
You say, "big deal, two days off, give the young mother a break"? We'd agree except for the fact that Gwen doesn't take two days off in a row any other time during her three month tour.
In the comments of the post "Gwen Stefani Refuses to perform in LA on Current Tour", Tony speculates that perhaps she's going to participate in a KROQ Weenie Roast or some other event that has yet to be announced.
Today I just happened to remember that there is a huge event happening the weekend of the 27th, namely Coachella.
You might say Gwen is too popular for Coachella, which is meant for the more up-and-coming bands (for the most part), but when it comes to Coachella headliners, no one was more popular than Madonna, and those of us who survived the long delay and the heat in her tent last year were treated to a great performance.
Personally we'd rather see No Doubt reunite than simply a solo Gwen set, but if Coachella is going to be three days, might as well kick it off with someone everyone loves.
Beginning of Gwen's Tour
Apr-21 Phoenix, AZ - Cricket Pavilion
Apr-22 San Diego, CA - Coors Amphitheatre
Apr-24 Fresno, CA - Save Mart Center
Apr-25 Bakersfield, CA - Rabobank Arena
Apr-28 Las Vegas, NV - MGM Grand Garden Arena
Apr-30 Salt Lake City, UT - The "E" Center
Coachella Dates
April 27-29 Indio, CA (conveniently located somewhat between Bakersfield and Las Vegas)

This articl e is incorrect - Madonna was horrible and let down many people for the following reasons:
1. Showtime - She came on 30 minutes after her show was to start
2. Set - She did Hung, Ray of Light and then 2 (MAYBE 3) songs of no value to motivating a crowd in the DANCE tent.
3. Exeunt - As stated in number two she did a tiny set, and also left the stage with 20 minutes left on her performance schedule.
4. Time waster/Cow Traffic - The whole festival (~75-80k each day) crowded over to the dance tent corner to only have their time wasted.
But thats Madonna.
actually you're wrong, she is playing gibson amph in LA on April 27th, it just isnt on the official website.
care to show us some proof of that anon?
madonna is an icon, gwen is just a current popular pop singer. i highly doubt she would be booked at coachella.
Young mother? Puhlease. Shes pushing 40!
" gwen is just a current popular pop singer."
well she has been around for about 20 years now, and I think it has been 12 years since she hit #1. Was Maddonna " just a current popular pop singer" 10 years ago?
