Lakers 123, Nuggets 104 - What could have been a match up of superstars became a showcase of supporting casts as Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson combined for only 24 points. While 11 players scored in double digits, Kobe was not one of them. He tallied a season low 8 and spent the 4th quarter icing his knees on the bench. We wanted to put up this photo of him holding hands with Iverson and staring longingly into each other's eyes, but we didn't have the rights. We also thought this photo of Marcus Camby groping Smush Parker was pretty funny. Maybe the Nuggets have a new strategy, since fighting is why Carmello Anthony and J.R. Smith are still suspended.
Wizards 116, Clippers 105 - The game was just a pre-party for Washington's Gilbert Arenas, who had 29 points in the first half en route to a total of 35 with 12 assists and 7 rebounds. Minutes after the buzzer, he was en route to his 25th birthday celebration hosted by Diddy (or is it P-Diddy?). Even though players weren't thrilled with an NBA dress code, nobody was upset with the Washington, D.C. affair being black tie (not to mention red carpet, invitation only, and you must be this tall to ride). It wasn't all bad for the Clippers, who would still be first place in the Atlantic Division with their stellar record of 15-18. Or dead last in their own Pacific Division. But who's counting?
Blue Jackets 4, Ducks 3 - The Ducks quacked in the final ten minutes of the game, allowing Columbus to storm back from a 3-0 deficit. The Blue Jackets scored four goals on eight shots, sending Anaheim to it's fourth straight loss and their worst loosing streak of the season. The Ducks had four players out with injuries, but still have the best record in the NHL.
Elsewhere - Petros Papadakis is back on local radio. LA's favorite loudmouth has been off the air since leaving 1540 The Ticket three months ago, around the time the Daily News named him 2006 Sports Host of the Year. Now you can hear "The P" weekdays from 4-7pm on 570 KLAC with co-host Matt "Money" Smith. The station may not be programmed in your car, but even non-sports fans should listen a couple times. And be prepared to turn the volume down.
