Movie Review: Snakes on a Plane

Jackson in SOAP

This is LAist’s mutherfuckin’ Snakes on a Plane review. This should have happened months ago, but like every other person we neglected to cough up the bucks at the box office and opted instead to wait for its DVD release. To make the case for SOAP, it doesn’t live up to the internet hype but it does however manage to pull off death by snakebite to the penis quite gracefully. The sickeningly twisted snake attacks, inspired by the internet forum postings of chronically masturbating fanboys, are the only aspect of the movie that live up to its name. That name being “Snakes on a Plane”; a name so elementary and intelligibly-contrived that it inspired the mass following and contribution of internet geeks. The result, perplexingly, is an entertaining film including the unstoppable anger of Samuel L. Jackson.

The movie does fall short in one area. SOAP is assumed to be a daffy, nonsensical movie; kind of like Airplane! but with CGI snakes and naked chicks -- instead most of the time it takes itself too seriously. The actors actually try to put forward an honest level of effort in their performances which is kind of ridiculous considering that these dramatic sequences are straddled by scenes in which naked women are taking snake fangs to the boobs. Second, a newborn baby in danger of being eaten by snakes doesn’t sit well with us; however maybe that’s just a personal issue that LAist has.

Overall this flick is worth checking out if you are staying home this Friday night, but don’t kill yourself getting to the video store for it.

Hmmm... so because someone is doing a B flick they shouldn't take it seriously or put forth an effort?

What exactly where you expecting? A subtle wink at the camera? Bursting into laughter mid-dialogue? A disclaimer?

Seriously, that's one of the dumbest sentences I've ever read in a movie review. B fims wouldn't be enjoyable at all if they didn't take themselves seriously--it's the very mechanism that adds another layer of comedy to them.

For clarity's sake, I'm not a fanboy. I thought the film was fun... Definitely not genius but a rock solid rental nonetheless.

Furthermore, I wish that baby would've gotten devoured head first.

Airplane! has like 6 more layers of comedy than this movie. I don't think you've seen it.

Either way, this movie was ok as well.

dude.
opening night at the chinese theater. come on now. hissssssssssssssss.

I've seen Airplane! as well as its sequel. Both of which are comedy films. SOAP wasn not a comedy.
