Kings 3, Blue Jackets 0 - Columbus lost their fifth road game in a row, and Mathieu Garon did everything he needed to make this one the third shut out during that stretch. He collected 26 saves for the Kings, while teammates Michael Cammalleri, Sean Avery, and Lubomir Visnovsky each notched goals. Next up, Detroit visits Los Angeles on Saturday.
Clippers 110, Heat 95 - The Clippers were still without an injured Sam Cassell, but that was nothing compared to Miami's problems. NBA Allstars Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O'Neal both sat out with injuries, as did forward Wayne Simien. Coach Pat Riley went on an indefinate leave of absence just hours before the game due to knee and hip problems. His last decision as coach was to bench two players because their body fat percentage was outside of team regulations. If the Clippers hadn't won, there would have been a lot of explaining to do. Los Angeles has four more games left on a six game road trip, while Miami will start a six game roadtrip after falling five games under .500 for the first time all season.
Elsewhere - LSU won the Sugar Bowl by spanking Notre Dame, who is now 0-9 in bowl games over the last 13 years ... Some experts have proof that baseballs used in the 1998 home run race were juiced ... Internet message boards are buzzing about Reggie Bush being snubbed for Rose Bowl field passes by USC. Some think USC is trying to distance itself from their former superstar due to allegations that his parents received inappropriate benefits from prospective agents. Others point out that USC only got 5 passes to give to non-players, and Bush didn't ask until the last second.
