News Flash: Look Out For The Boogey Man!

Renán Almendárez Coello, a/k/a Maximo Almendares, a/k/a El Cucuy, a/k/a El Cucuy de la Manana (The Boogeyman of the Morning) is having one heckuva New Years hangover. He surrendered himself to police today and was charged with making criminal threats to his wife and on the phone to a police officer.

Almendares is best known as the popular morning host of La Raza 97.9 (KLAX-FM) in Los Angeles. His picture (like you see to the left from a San Francisco sister station) is on billboards and buses all over town.

LAPD announced that Almendares turned himself in and posted $50,000 bond two days after the reported fight with his wife that was allegedly broken up by their adult son.

There were no reported injuries to Mrs. Almendares, who "...was initially uncooperative and belligerent with officers" when they began investigating at 7am on New Years Day.

Police did find blood and a knife at the family's home in Northridge.
