Oxnard Farm Possibly Responsible for Taco Bell Green Onion Sickness

Farms are like NFL referees: if they're getting noticed, that's bad news.

Bad news hit Oxnard's Boskovich Farms, when it was discovered that their green onions were part of the east coast E.coli incidents that caused dozens of people to get sick after eating at Taco Bell restaurants.

In a statement that Boskovich posted on their website, the farm hints at the idea that the E.coli might have been developed at the "third party" processing plant, where the Oxnard onions are shipped.

Although Boskovich Farms has not been contacted by the FDA or any other government agency, we are aware of the reports of illnesses associated with Taco Bell restaurants in the Northeastern United States, possibly related to processed green onions. Boskovich Farms provides bulk green onions to third party processors approved by Taco Bell. As a supplier of green onions to Taco Bell, we are currently working closely with both Taco Bell and their highly regarded regional processing company in support of the voluntary action taken by Taco Bell.

According to Reuters, Taco Bell has stopped using green onions at all of its restaurants "after tests showed three samples were 'presumptive positive' for the E.coli 0157:H7 strain."
