LAst Night's Action: LA chilly, but still tough to beat the Heat

Elton Brand's 33 canceled out Dwane Wade's 33, so both were left off of the official boxscore.

Clippers 101, Heat 97 - The Clippers edged out Miami behind 33 points and 17 rebounds from Elton Brand. Dwane Wade also had 33, but missed a crucial layup in the final minute. Shaq didn't show up for a Staples homecoming because of recent knee surgery.

Dodgers 1, Everybody Else 2 - Two Dodger stars are leaving for greener pastures. JD Drew will go to Boston for 5 years and $70 million, while Greg Maddux will go to division rival San Diego for one year at $10 million. Reliever Takashi Saito will stay for another year in a deal worth between $1 million and $1.3 million, depending on performance incentives.

Elsewhere - SI's Stewart Mandel says this is a pretty lackluster Bowl season, but at least the USC-Michigan Rose Bowl will be the second best game. UCLA vs. Florida St. in the Emerald Bowl is 22 out of 32 ... California is starting a high school football bowl game system. It's experimental and has doubters, but at least it's not the BCS ... For college basketball fans, the John Wooden Classic will pit #1 UCLA and #6 Texas A&M against each other this Saturday, while USC and George Washington play the undercard. The Bruins dispatched CSU Fullerton earlier tonight 78-54 despite falling behind by 10 points in the first half ... If you miss baseball season and the 1980's, this will warm you up on this cold winter night.
