Burbank NIMBYs v. Whole Foods

There were Sherman Oaks residents against Best Buy. There's Sunland-Tujunga residents against Home Depot. Enter Burbank Equestrians.

According to Daily News, Whole Foods wants to build a store at 901 W. Alameda at Main Street, which is in the Ranch Equestrian District of the city. The increased traffic that would affect equestrian owners/riders and the general "fit" of its location is being opposed as the Planning Board voted 4-1 against the market.

The city suggests putting in bicycle lanes on the street for shared equestrian use and the developer is willing to widen Main street's intersection at Alameda with right- and left-turn lanes to ease traffic.

Instead of widening the street, Whole Foods should pay for an intelligent crosswalk for equestrians and build a state defined multiuse trail, which is unpaved and available for equestrian, hiking, and mountain bike use.

After all, NIMBY does rhyme with quimby (no, not that quimby!).
