Sonic Youth Sneak Preview "Kim's Chords" for Samantha

Sonic Youth Rulez

Just because Thanksgiving is over doesn't mean we can't be thankful for some excellent people. Now, this might blow your minds, but LAist doesn't just innately know everything, some of our information is handed to us either via email or snail mail or singing telegram.

For example, we just didn't roll out of bed this summer and suddenly discover two of our favorite new bands, The Grates and The Format, their cds were mailed to us by one of our bestest sources for brand new music, one Samantha Barnes of Filter. We are stoked before we can stoke you.

Sonic Youth The Destroyed RoomBut because LAist dabbles in white slavery and international wire fraud we don't always have all the time that we should to listen to all the cds that come our way and for that we apologize; specifically to our pallie Sam, who emailed us last week with streams of a new Sonic Youth song "Kim's Chords" -- which will be part of their B-Sides collection due next month called "The Destroyed Room" (complete track listing after the jump).

LAist goes way back with SY -- we met them when we went to college in Santa Barbara; we got to hang backstage with them at their gig at the Whiskey a year later in 1990; we enjoyed hearing them at the Sunset Junction street fair a few years ago; and we've admired the fact that they've been able to maintain a long and fruitful career despite never having a hit song or even a big selling album.

They've never changed their fiercely creative and experimental directive of pushing the boundaries of guitar driven alt-rock and for that we will love them forever. They are the epitome of the signature on each of Sam's emails, Filter's optimistic motto -- "good music will prevail".

So turn up your computer and trip out to the dreamy shuffle of "Kim's Chords": Windows or if you prefer, Real
