LAst Night's Action - Lakers and Ducks Up, Clips Down

come back Sam Nuggets 103, Clippers 88 - For the second night in a row, as Sam Cassell went so went the Clip Show. Last night the eldest Clipper sprained his ankle in the second half and the team fell apart. The Nuggets won their sixth straight behind 33 from Mello. Meanwhile the Clips lost their fourth straight and are now sole residents of the cellar.

Lakers 99, Nets 93 - Kobe and Lamar combined for a miserable 14 of 40 from the field, but the slack was taken up from the rest of the fellas as six Lakers ended up in double digits in what could best be deemed Team Basketball. Kobe dished out a season-high 10 assists as the first-place Lakers racked up their fifth win in six games.

Ducks 5, Flames 3 - Another team firmly in first place are the mighty Ducks who won their 12th home game of the young season thanks to two goals by Teemu Selanne. Rookie goalie Michael Wall had the best seat in the house (but he had to stand) as he watched his defenders allow Calgary a mere 11 shots during the first two periods. The Ducks are an impressive 17-2-6.

Also yesterday the BCS computer granted USC it's #2 ranking. The only thing that stands in the way of the Trojans squaring off against Ohio State in the National Championship is UCLA who they face Saturday. So don't be surprised to see some Bruin/Trojan smack on LAist over the next few days.
