Mere Mortals: LA's Hottest Band is Unsigned

Any struggling A&R rep ought to take advantage of this holiday season and jump on the Mere Mortals while Hollywood naps.

Their self-made "Rebel Radio" EP is climbing the FMQB charts that track national airplay on new music radio shows. Not only are the Mere Mortals the only unsigned band on the Single chart where they're #15, but they're #10 on the Album chart.

Last year Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) checked out the band at Spaceland and offered to direct their first video, "Cracked", and did a pretty damn good job.

This year they replaced their bass player with Japanese hellion Mimi Star, formerly of Rayon, put out their EP and played everywhere they could. Indie 103's Jonesy called Rebel Radio an "amazing sounding EP", and the fact that they're rubbing shoulders on the charts with The Decemberists, Veruca Salt, and ... And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead should raise at least a few eyebrows.

"Get your checkbooks out, record labels, and give this mob a deal," Jones demanded on his "Jonesy's Jukebox" show this summer. Now he looks prophetic when the former Sex Pistol criticized the industry for not yet signing the quartet, saying, "you're so slow, some of you."

Maybe the labels are gunshy of signing a band with a singer named Axel, but if you notice he's got an E in his name. We don't know how to contact the band but you might check out their MySpace page for starters.
