The David vs. Goliath analogy is made way too often in sports. But, not many people expected the Kings not to endure a bit of an ass-whomping (technical sports term) at the hands of the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.
But, a three goal outburst by the Kings, in the third period, sealed a 4-2 victory.
Alexander Frolov netted two, while Lubomir Visnovsky and Dustin Brown each added one.
After the game, people were talking about the Kings' special team units. They scored on two out of three power play chances, and killed all four power plays against them.
Plus, there was even a little scrap between Tom Kostopoulos and Mark Bell with 14 seconds left to play. Hopefully this bad blood will spill over into the next game.

On Monday, the Kings also announced that long-time King star Luc Robitaille has been named Assistant to the Governor (Dwight Schrute will tell you that this is MUCH different than being Assistant Governor) and Alternate Governor for the franchise. He'll be involved in business development, community relations and other difficult to quantify endeavors. But, it's a smart move and the classy Robitaille's presence alone is good for the franchise.
The Ducks haven't played since we last spoke, but that doesn't mean that they haven't been a little busy themselves.
They are up to something.
In recent days, they've made 3 separate deals.
The Ducks received tough guy George Parros from Colorado, in exchange for the Ducks' second round pick in 2007. They also traded Todd Fedoruk to Philadelphia for a fourth round draft pick. Then they traded Stanislav Chistov to Boston for a third rounder in either 2007 or 2008.
That leaves the Ducks with an open roster spot and, if my math is correct, a bit of a financial savings as well.
Completely unsubstantiated rumors have the Ducks making a run at Phoenix defenseman Ed Jovanovski. Something to keep an eye on, especially since the Coyotes are currently the second worst team in the league.
A defensive corps with Jovo, Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger as it's top three is absolutely frightening. All-star teams have had worse line-ups than that.
The latest ESPN Power Rankings are out and the Ducks are still on top. The Kings are... a little lower. *cough*

It was the Kings' best performance of the season. They finally beat a team that was not only playoff-bound, but the Sharks are a legit Stanley Cup contender. The Kings are also finally getting the kind of performance from Alexander Frolov that they need. But...it must be said that the Sharks were nowhere near top form in this game.
