Music Preview Orpheum Tonight

People in Los Angeles have a great excuse to run late. Traffic. And accordingly, for most sporting events and concerts in this town, it comes as no surprise to see people straggling in ten minutes to an hour after an event starts. And most of the time that's ok, especially for bands where you paid your ticket to see the main act.

Tonight counts as one exception. David Ford is opening at the Orpheum for Ray LaMontagne and it is going to be an amazing show. If you don't have tickets, well you might be SOL. But let's face it, if you want to go bad enough you can beg, borrow or scalp your way in. LAist will be there, we'll be the ones swooning in the corner.

While Ray LaMontagne is further established, David Ford is an up and comer and you know how we love those in LA. We first saw Ray when Rachel Yamagata opened for him at the Wiltern two summers ago. David Ford will be a first, but we have fallen hard for his soft lyrics and individual style. Plus his most recent album is all his own doing. Which is just fucking cool. We were just reading an interview with him and he said, "I always want to write songs as if no one's ever written a song before," he says. "I certainly try not to be influenced by other lyricists. You can take musical influences, but lyrical influences you should only ever take from yourself. My editing process is about having a very serious, stern talk with myself and saying, ‘This is your legacy. When you're dead, people will judge you on this and this alone.'"

Hell yeah (does the swooning make more sense now?) So throw your plans in the air and head out early. He's sure to rock the house.
