"There were 10 bodies deceased. It wasn't so much that we had to find out if he was guilty or not. It was just if it was simple negligence or gross negligence." - Juror Jorge Granados

"(The evidence) convinced us that this was more than simple negligence. (Weller) had adequate time to take evasive action" - Juror Thomas Walls

"It has been our position from the beginning that no matter if you're 16 or 86, if you make the decision to get behind the wheel of a car, you have a duty of care." - Juror Yolanda Hernandez

"(He was) not a reckless person, but the act was reckless." - Juror Cristina de la Rocha

"He had 240 feet before he came to the barricade for the farmer's market. That's a long way, and he went 1,000 feet before he stopped. He still had plenty of time to react." - YH

"Mr. Weller was a good man, a good citizen. It's so unfortunate." - Juror Simon Magtibay

"I have no idea what happened that day, but anger did come out in the testimony. The demeanor of Mr. Weller on that videotape, it meant a lot to us." - YH

"It could have been anybody. You certainly feel there was no intent, that it was an accident, a tragic accident. - TW

Tony:

FYI, we placed a link to the official NTSB report and presentation on the LAFD News & Information blog. I do think that some LAist readers may find them of interest.

You know what's criminal? The fact that Weller received only 18 years in prison for killing 10 people. That's less then 2 years per death. I'm pretty sure if I took a gun into a crowded public space and shot 10 people, I'd get a helluva lot more than 18 years in prison. I guess you can get away with whatever you want if you're batshit crazy AND 86 years old.

he hasn't gotten any time yet. he's not even in jail. he could get up to 18 years, or no time, just probation. the sentencing hasnt yet occurred.
