I also keep an old phone around - the old kind that has cords, since my cordless will lose a charge in the event of a power outage - oh, and a radio that works on batteries. Those are the two things that saved my butt in the '94 quake - my power was out for over a week but the phone line was fine.

Create an emergency plan and designated meeting spot (the weird maternal side comes out!). Seriously, a school in your area or government building is the best place because they have the best emergency plans.

Also, who are you calling? Cell phones get knocked out in earthquakes so add a calling card to your $200 and emergency kit to call people from pay phones to let them know you are ok.

Last there are these great battery-less flashlight you can get. They work on motion and you shake them to turn them on. This way you don't have to worry about finding batteries should you lose power for multiple days.
