Let’s say it upfront. It’s a fake and ridiculous.
On September 21st, only 8 days after the unveiling of LonelyGrl15’s identity, a video blog on YouTube popped up under the handle of NoHoGirls. Only one female appeared in the vlog, calling herself Cara Brimley who moved from Oregon to North Hollywood. Later, we meet her two roommates, Blue and Daniella, and Daniella’s boyfriend, Eddie, who occasionally is the cameraman. One day, Eddie cheats on her with Daniella’s best friend -- Leah Wagner.
So what happens next? What happens next is West Hollywood. The WeHo Girls make their debut with Eddie (calling himself VanNuysGuy), Leah and her roomie Brady. Sounds like a YouTube Soap, eh?
Here are the facts from some pretty non-technical cyber sleuthing…
Mistake #1: YouTube Registration
Both NoHo and WeHo Girls signed up for a YouTube account 3 weeks ago. If the WeHo Girls started a blog in response to the NoHo Girls on October 5th, then the account would have been created 1 week ago, not 3 ago. Enough said.
Mistake #2: Know Your Space
The stalk tool -- excuse us, the “add to favorites” button -- gives you some special information about all users on MySpace. First, like friend lists, it lists all users not alphabetically, but by registration date. Interesting that all cast members of the ‘ho series made MySpace profiles at the same time within the last couple weeks.
LAist wrote both Cara and Leah requesting interviews and while both signed on after the e-mails were sent, they were unopened (yes, yet another MySpace feature is to see if an e-mail has been viewed or not).
Yesterday, between 2:02 and 2:04 p.m., all parties in TheWeHoGirls updated their profiles. Seeming a bit organized?
Mistake #3: WHOIS???
It could be squatters but let’s say they aren’t. While someone in Germany has taken NoHoGirls.com for a few years, TheNoHoGirls.com, TheWeHoGirls.com and WeHoGirls.com were all registered on the October 4, 2006 with GoDaddy and put on domainsbyproxy.com to make the registration info private.
Mistake #4: We’re not the only ones
YouTube Fakerz is all over it (one, two). But so are commenters such as remotelywild who notes, “so how does a 21 year old 'artist' whose art is 'bright and abstract' afford such a place as we see her in? How does she pay the bills let alone the rent? oh wait - guess the family in oregon takes care of those. And were all those leg shots for real?”
“Gee... your room is well lit...How many umbrella lights are you using??” says another commenter, jamesm3.
Some are very observant, as camop2 notices that they "have a nice microphone in the shot at time 1:13. It seems that your man handling the fishpole needs some more training. And your forehead is reflecting the softboxed lights. You need some proper make-up. Have a good time on the set."
Cara responds saying "Eddie's an aspiring director, I'm amazed he hasn't dropped the camera never mind his microphone! If you think floor lamps are pro lighting thank you! (I try my best LOL)!"

Personally speaking, LAist is a big fan of Los Angeles locals such as Lisa Nova and littleloca. "TV" drama is fun and all, but bridging the gap between reality and TV has already been done and done well.

What is this crap? Boy am I out of touch with the web. I think there should be an age limit on this kind of stuff. Anyone older than the age of 19 doing this should get a bat to the side of their head. I'm just saying.
