I'm allergic to cats. They make me sneeze and my eyes water. However, I'm not immune to their beauty and grace. Most cats have an entirely elegant and chilly demeanor that is quite the opposite of most dogs. A cat will come to you only when it wants to, while a dog can be summoned when the master wants him.
One of the attributes of a cat is that it does not bark. Our neighborhood, paranoid about crime, is home to dozens of large, loud barking dogs. Some of them bark when you are reading a book quietly in the yard, or at 2:30am when you are deep asleep, or at 6am before you want to wake up when the sun is just rising.
Yes, cats might be hated by some, but they really go out of their way not to bother anyone.

i'm just kidding i don't HATE cats
I don't hate cats either but they belong inside for their own safety and for the safety of any wildlife. This summer our 22+ year old cat died but she lived that long because she wasn't outside dodging cars or contracting disease - she also wasn't killing birds, lizrds, etc. If you have a cat, keep it inside!
Other than the hacking up of furballs, clawing of all furniture (even though they have a cat tree), using the bathtub as their personal toilet, knocking things off countertops, and tracking around kitty litter they are great! These are my experiences with my roomates 2 cats. That's why I love my dog!
