Greasing of Wheels Halts LA Traffic

bushla.jpg

Well, as if we didn't have enough to be pissed at President Bush for, we come to find him responsible for the hours-long traffic nightmare that's virtually shut down the Westside this evening.

Yes, the most unpopular president since Herbert Hoover, who's treated California as virtually a foreign country for the past six years, came to town to get a little grease poured on his wheels by a few wealthy constituents (the fundraising dinner being at the house of venture capitalist Elliott Broidy, appointed early this year to Homeland Security's Advisory Council).

Broidy's house being in Holmby Hills, naturally the entire 405 is shut down in rolling strips this evening, in both directions, while Sunset Blvd. is completely closed from 4-8 PM from Westwood to the freeway. So as hundreds of thousands sit in gridlock, burning precious gasoline at $3.00 per gallon, it's worth remembering who really owns this country.

We'll breathe a lot easier when the ape has taken his circus and left town. And so will the Governator, who's been running from the freakshow all day.

I was jammed up in this traffic all afternoon. They even shut down Sepulveda by UCLA! That was such a waste of a kickass caffeine high as well. I had to rock out hardcore for 3 hours to the only CD my sister had left behind in my car - Kelly Clarkson.

Dang, where are you buying gas?! Gas in my area, even the premium kind, is at most $2.85.

I realize you probably just hate Bush period, but pretty much any president visiting L.A. is going to snarl traffic.

I left UCLA around 5:30 and Sunset wasn't closed (this was by Westwood Plaza entrance just west of Hilgard). The only place I encountered any annoying traffic or deay was on Beverly Glen north of Wilshire.

i liked that he visited the fabulosity of the h hills. only b/c i got to leave work reallllly early ^^

Yeah, any pres will snarl traffic, it's true.
But I remember being 16 or so and going down to watch Bill Clinton's limo drive down San Vicente; there were hundreds of people out there waving, and no one seemed to mind so much.

I also recall not feeling like I was in danger of being arrested or shot for standing along the President's route...even if I'd decided to yell something rude.

Can you imagine feeling that way now?

I started class at UCLA yesterday and had to deal with the traffic going there. Tried to play it smart by heading in going North and it wasn't too bad. Leaving around 10:30pm was a little tricky though as the closest exit to the 405 was still blocked off for some bizarre reason.
