Good pizza in the Valley!

Looking for Good Pizza in the Valley? Yeah, we are too, but last night we may have stumbled across it. Nestled deep in the home of the Porn Industry lies Uncle Ernie's Pizza 4-U. Located on the Southwest corner of Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Lassen, Uncle Ernie's Pizza 4U specializes in oven fresh pizza by the slice or by the pie, subs, salads, pasta, and just generally tasty cuisine.

Upon entering the staff jumped into action, but not in the fashion a restaurant-goer in the Valley is used to. The staff asked us what we wanted, and after a bout of indecisiveness they snapped back, "If you don't tell us soon, you'll have to wait longer." The characters behind the counter cracked-wise and yelled orders and demands at one another. The action in the kitchen was only compounded when a couple of the delivery drivers came in raring to get back on the road with more pies.

We ordered a large vegetarian special (mushrooms, olives, red onions, green pepper, tomato, and artichoke hearts), and a couple of slices of pepperoni pizza, just to even out all the greenery. The pizza itself was not too thin, not too thick, crispy, chewy, yeasty deliciousness. The rotating oven (which we regrettably forgot to snap a picture of) was a marvel of pizza making. The stones rotated around and around the oven which had a spring loaded viewing/retrieval door on the side. The bustle of the store led us to find a table out of the way of the action in the back of the small storefront which comfortably seated four, but we managed with five.

Everything about Uncle Ernie's screamed pizzeria; Bench seating, Italian proverbs, stained-glass style lampshades, and a half broken Ms. Pac-man machine. It's a rare and beautiful place here in Los Angeles, and even less common in the Valley.

If you're in the mood for some good pizza and you find yourself on the butt-end of the Valley, stop in at Uncle Ernie's (Especially if it's a Monday night, you get up to 6 toppings for FREE between 5 and 9) and grab a pop and a slice or two. You certainly won't regret it. Uncle Ernie's is located at 9841 Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Chatsworth. They are open from 11am to 10pm weekdays and 11pm on Friday and Saturday.
