Review: Living In Emergency
Last night was a huge night for music in our fair city. Did you happen to make it to Jeff Beck, M. Ward, Sonic Youth or Scissor Sisters? This LAister went for a fifth option and headed to losanjealous' pick of the week, Rogue Wave at Safari Sam's.
Listening to Rogue Wave was a highlight of the week. It's like when you go home at the end of a really long week, kick off your shoes and just sit back and go, "aaaahhhh." That is them, great albums, even better live and with awesome slight variations on arrangement for the songs they surely have now played thousands of times.
Rogue Wave is headed off the road for the first time in a few years. Partly to take a break, partly because their drummer, Pat Spurgeon, is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Opening for the band was Foreign Born, Jason Collette (lead singer from Broken Social Scene) and the one thing all the bands shared was a sense of comraderie evident by them all getting on stage several times throughout the night to jam out, keep each other company and just have some fun. It was contagious as people in audience at one point even clapped along (which according to Zach Rogue would NEVER happen in Silverlake!)
Safari Sam's is making a name for itself (our review is even on their homepage!) Catch some of the best acts around - and with special nights including Kiss or Kill and Check Yo Ponytail now there, why not make a special appearance of your own?
