Goodbye Gram!

Gram Parsons left us for a better place 23 years ago. If he were still alive, he would be coming up on celebrating his 59th birthday. Gram is often referred to as the worlds first Country/Rock Star. He has maintained an incredible cult following through the years - how could he not being one of the first to discover Emmylou Harris, he played shortly with the Birds and had the ultimate rock-star notch in the belt - a mysterious and untimely death.

Gram died a year earlier than some of the others - he was only 26 - and under those auspicious circumstances probably from a mix of drugs and drinking in Joshua Tree at the Joshus Tree Inn. His legend lives on - especially in Los Angeles where his daughter Polly Parsons has most recently been producing Taking the Jesus Pill at King King (read LAist's review of TTJP here). Gram's work is also heavily influenced in the monthly outing of Sweethearts of the Rodeo which takes place the first Wednesday of every month at Molly Malone's.
