Unveiling of LonelyGirl15 = Boring

It went from Amélie to The Village

The mystery of LonelyGirl15 (aka LG15) is solved. And it's a complete bore: three dudes randomly meet, they come up with a good idea that is LG15, it works (it works really really really well), the mystery around it stirs conversation whether it be real or a marketing scheme and then we find out it was just three dudes who are now represented by Creative Artists Agency.

Hey, kudos to them for riding the popularity of LonelyGirl15 to some promising job aspects. Kudos to them for doing something they love. But the snotty artist in me says, "fuck you, you self serving assholes." This is worse than the normal word-of-mouth marketing schemes. Now out of the closet, the creators said, “with your help we believe we are witnessing the birth of a new art form.” Are you kidding me? New??

Where I'm coming from is the Amélie aspect (or even earlier, a taste of Sophie's World). The jokes, actions, schemes or what I would call, a kind of individualized performance art that Amélie created, all had a level of mystery that usually was never solved. That's what made the story so great.

LonelyGirl15 provided a real world contemporary mystery, even if totally mindless and not really important. But no one wants to follow a story that has a terrible ending. And that's what just happened.

Well, It Turns Out That Lonelygirl Really Wasn’t (NYT)

Jealous, much, Zach?

Not that I want to encourage any copycats, but my problem with LonelyGirl was she was a terrible actor, and there was far too many edits - unlike the majority of YouTube vids where the kids never edit their stuff.

Therefore my intelligence was insulted when these three idiots tried to pass this off as real.

I'm all in favor of experimenting with new things, but this was retarded, especially if it was just a way to market (a probably equally idiotic) film.

And no Aleister, I'm not jealous of a lame marketing scheme that got outted. Why would I and why would Zach?

least.. loneliest.. girl.. ever.

I saw it in it's early days and thought the girl was an idiot, and i have no clue how so many people were into her. I also don't watch any tv because i'm tired of every show trying to sell me something. what do we do to stop this? how did it go on for so long?

Seriously, I saw a couple videos to see what the fuss was about, and how could you not tell it was too polished and edited for a teen video blog?

"New art form"?

What, has William Castle been forgotten already?

How sad.
