Tommy Lee's Supernova Can't Be Supernova Anymore

supernovatrio.jpg A lesson to all you would-be supergroups, yearning to use national tv to help you find your new singer and sell out concerts before you even really have a band: be original, and if you can't do that, have an original name for your manufactured band.

Yesterday a San Diego judge ruled that the original Supernova, the Orange County punk band whose single "Chewbacca" has appeared on the "Clerks" soundtrack, was in the right to demand that the Tommy Lee / Jason Newsted / Gilbey Clarke band quit using the name Supernova.

According to MTV:

The injunction keeps the producers of "Rock Star: Supernova" — which concludes Wednesday night — from "performing rock and roll music, or recording, or selling rock and roll music recordings under the same [name], pending a trial of this action on its merits, or until otherwise ordered by the court."
Meaning that although Rockstar: Supernova was a fun tv show to watch, that all the branding of the name has been flushed down the tubes.

LAist suggests that perhaps Tommy's band try out some of these names: The New Unoriginals, Mediocrenova, Less Zeppelin, Stupidgroup, The Alive Kennedys, Craptallica, The Lesser of Three Evils, NBC Ate My Balls, Miss Teen Ohio, Binge Purge Repeat, Richerthanyounova

Feel free to add your own suggestions.

give the guys a break, while it may be a little unoriginal to form a super band out of already famous people and while it may be a little lame to try and find their frontman from a tv show, these guys are just trying to form a band and do what they love best, create music that they and thousand of other people think rocks, dont worry about how they formed just listen to the riffs, the bass lines and the lyrics and then make a judgement.... on their music that is.... if their music is great dont worry about all the other superficial shit!
