The history of the late night open thread is long and storied.
Some of the most popular are here in LA, LGF being probably the most popular. We don't ever imagine to be that popular, but we do hope it to be good.
Basically this is a chance for the readers to take over, so have fun.

Everyone's out partying - you know, like in that ABC video where Martin Fry gets shrunk really small and crushed by the bitch's martini glass. It's still early yet. Just mention "peak oil" and everyone will perk up a bit.
Oh man, peak oil? I'm too tired to discuss that. I just saw Point of No Return. First time since I was like 8 or 12 or whatever it was. Never realized how bad the music was until now.
Gee, if LGF is so popular why don't you link to it? You link to Crooks and Liars, another partisan blog based in LA?
I hope you don't want to be as 'popular' as LGF, those people are some kind of neo-neo-nazis. Scary things in those comments.
I see the hit piece on "lard asses" has been removed from the site, Bravo tony! An inkling of quality control. Though it would be much better if you issued a public retraction, rather than just quietly remove it from your site, you're not afraid of being wrong, are you? I guess now I'll never be able to make the apology you requested (not that I would have) since this post never existed, Winston Smith would be proud.
It's one thing to "keep it real" and quite another to be disrespectful. The day you can walk into the Moxie and call a girl a "lard ass" I will issue an apology, otherwise, you are still dead wrong. Maybe you should give just a little thought to your readers comments rather than get defensive and male. I wish your site the best, but I'm not making it part of my media diet anymore, seems laist thinks I've had too much.
For the record, this is where the post used to be:

mayra,
you're wrong about so many things. shall we count the ways?
1) we never took the post down, nor was there any reason to. the club is proud of what it is and the author of the post was not being disrespectful.
2) we never do things quietly
3) the correct url does not end in html but in php
