Tuesday is Foosday

Team_Fooze_Crest.jpg

Tuesday, the most overlooked day of the week, has finally made a name for itself thanks in part to the latest trend in retro pastimes, Foosball.

You might remember Foosball from such events as:

~ That time you misguidedly joined a fraternity (or)
~ The Boston pub-crawl you participated in around the millennium (or)
~ Being nine.
But whatever your fondest memories of this beloved table soccer, you can relive them every Tuesday, for free at the Cha Cha Lounge in Silverlake.

CCL (a punk-polynesian parlor, rife with south-of-the-border chic and hip local dignitaries) has become ground zero for all things Foos.

For the last few months, makeshift leagues have been forming there, and some serious rivalries have been imagined established.

Team Fooze, brainchild of the La-La Metal Collective, is one of these leagues. They’re a friendly, inventive bunch and if you ask nicely, they’ll probably let you join.

Spirited co-captains Leslie J. Landis and Brooke Z. Doyle are firm believers in enthusiasm going a long way. If you’re a ringer, all the better, but the majority of the congregation are not what you would consider gifted, in the Foosballian arts.

Mostly, the team has relied on mystery, intrigue, scandal and costume design to carry them through to the made-up finals. (I say “made-up finals” because I’ve never actually seen a tournament tree or anyone keeping score beyond a single game, for that matter…)

Nevertheless, an awards banquet is planned for mid-September to celebrate the season’s highlights and achievements. It will be held at a secret location downtown, and if you come to Foos practice tonight and sport for a few PBRs, one of the captains might tell you exactly when and where.

TONIGHT @ 9p @ CCL !!

Team Fooze kids face-off against each other, and go head to head with rival leaguers (who take the whole thing WAY serious…)…

Watch Cheesburglar, Master of the Universe take on North Korea; See Kitchen Radios duke it out with the Colorado Ringers; And don’t miss Team Iceland as they try for the title…

Have your picture taken with the Team Fooze mascot, and/or get in a few rounds of competitive photoboothing…
