How about Mr. John Logie Baird, for inventing TV. He first demonstrated his system to the public in 1925, and the BBC adopted his system in 1929, although they didn't set up a regular service until 1936, at least that's when my aunt bought her first TV! Mr. Baird was born in Helensburgh, just across the Clyde from where I was born - somewhat later!

I'm Sure Mr. Farnsworth was a very clever man, but in my home-land, we know that television was first introduced by Mr. John Logie Baird, born in Helensburgh just across the Clyde from where I was born. And I'm told his first transmission was in 1926. The BBC had a regular service in 1936, at least that's when my aunt bought her first set!
