We Rode Through Midnight

Midnight Ridazz

Being the huge Midnight Ridazz fans that Blogging.la's Sean Bonner and Will Campbell are, we got a little curious and joined in on the action last Friday. Too many people to actually find the fellow bloggers (some say there were 1700, Sean says around 1300), we just chilled and enjoyed the ride.

The Midnight Ridazz began in 2004 with an 18 mile Friday night ride of six cyclists and 2 skateborders. Founders say they are "something of a counter-cultural revolution of sorts... an alternative to the brain dead car voyages that hide everything good that a city has to offer," and that they are "about riding bicycles, hanging out, acting silly, being whimsical, having a good heart, and enjoying a relaxed pace bicycle ride..."

Appropriately, Friday's ride began at Mulholland Fountain with one biker's blasting of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries from a jerry-rigged bike trailer with a PA system. We headed south on the Los Angeles River Bikeway into parts of East L.A. (even Frogtown) where the LAPD Airship followed us around. Then we veered west into Downtown and northwest up to MacArthur Park where the ride petered out as people decided if they were going to jet it home or go to the final destination at the HMS Bounty on Wilshire.

Whether the ride has grown too large or not, or you're not cool with the idea of corking intersections, LAist fully endorses the Midnight Ridazz. Ride on and we'll see you next month!

For a dorky little video of the LAPD Airship and some other stuff, watch the one we made.

I'm not questioning the 1700 count for this month, 1300 was last month as far as anyone can tell. Regardless there were a shit ton of people on bikes!

Ride on Riders! Riding bikes with friends is where its at.
