Today is Maxine Waters' Birthday

First off she looks damn good for 68. Say what you will about her politics, I know people half her age that don't look as good as our congresswoman from the 35th in South Central. Like Nelly, Maxine was born in St. Louis but eventually made her way to LA in time to graduate from Cal State LA even before it was called Cal State LA. Back then it was Los Angeles State College, a name LAist prefers, quite frankly.

For the last 16 years Ms. Waters has been a vocal and sometimes controversial member of the House. Not one to bite her tongue, Waters once said during a pro-choice rally, "George W Bush, go to hell! And while you’re at it, we want you to take Ashcroft with you. And don’t forget Rumsfeld. And please carry along Condi Rice," only later to add, “I have to march because my mother could not have an abortion.”

But the best thing we have heard from her was what she said last week after Ned Lamont won. She said she loved blogging and bloggers. Then, baby, we love you too.
