Restaurant Review: Safari Sam's

Being somewhat broke, I figured I'd economize and go to dinner and a show
all at once. I found myself at Safari Sams, land of comfy outdoor couches
and crunchy indoor music. I found my accomplice in dinner crime, one Jana
Pants, seated close to the stage.

Though I really dug the music of Izzy Cox and the Eskimos, I felt like that scene in Batman where Bruce Wayne and reporter Vicky Vale are shouting to each other down a long table to pass the salt. This wasn't because I'm secretly a super hero (or AM I?) but because the music was REALLY loud. I felt rude yelling over it but didn't want to eat in conversational silence, so up to the balcony we went.

Much better.

After perusing the menu, I decided to get the hummus plate with some extra veggies on the side while Jana chose the mac and cheese. They were sadly out of the vegan meatloaf, which I shall try next time around.

The menu was pretty well balanced for the vegetarians and omnivores, with some exciting
salads and your typical fish, meat and pasta dishes. Though it was not very extensive, I could see that it had a bit of something to please everyone.

The food came promptly and it was AWESOME. The hummus was thick and spicy, prefectly complemented by strips of lavash bread. The mac and cheese was gooey and rich with smoked chedder and tender penne. I was glad I had my side of carrots and broccoli to counteract the delicious damage to my arteries.

Overall, the food was tasty and served in good proportions...sizeable but not those gargantuan American portions that could easily feed a table of 5 cows. It was great to sit around with a full tummy, chatting and listening to some zesty music.

Safari Sams is located at 5214 W. Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, between Western and Normandie. Check their website for show times and whatnot.

Pam will be playing at Safari Sam's sometime in September, so you better stop by.
